Back in 1998 I started photographing sea turtles and started to become involved in their conservation/preservation efforts. I was horribly naive about how I might be able to help -- my first thought was to take photographs around to the local grade schools and talk with the children. That didn't work out but things developed in ways that I never imagined possible through the internet; people and organizations involved in conservation from all over the world are using these pictures in schools, museum placards, brochures and pamphlets, and on web-sites. Every month or so I get a request from an organization for permission to use images, most recently from an organization in Australia, and it gave me cause to stop and think about what has taken place over the last seven years -- our pictures can make a difference, even if it is small.
