With all the talk of digital domination, death of film, decline in the popularity of real cameras, etc, I'd like to share what I think is an interesting statistic with this group.
I've completed my annual review of activity for "The Light Seal Project", and last year the project sold enough genuine professional grade material to re-seal over 50,000 cameras. I have been told the “project” has become the world’s largest seller of camera light seal material, and I believe that is actually true. Even more interesting to me is activity for the project was up by over 10%. This year has brought some challenges to the project: the cost of foam has risen dramatically (and honestly the weakness of the dollar works against me on that), the cost of postage has increased, the cost of paper and toner has increased, I had to buy another printer as the original one became less dependable, I’ve had some other demands on my time, and even the cost of bamboo and the electricity for the machine that makes the little tools has increased. However, I have just renewed the contract for foam production, and I have decided to continue for at least another year with the same pricing that was set in place when the project was started. Since the project will be operating on a much slimmer margin of error, I’m depending on demand remaining strong, and I’ll be exploring some expense reductions. Even though US Postal rates have increased, I've also decided to continue with free shipping inside the US and I am continuing to subsidize the cost of shipping anywhere else in the world.
Additionally, I'm going to take a moment to thank each and every member and guest here who has purchased a kit for helping the "project" continue and to develop a little surplus which will be used to fund other camera "projects"...one of which will be named before the end of Spring. Whether in the USA, the UK, Greece, Latvia, Mexico, Brazil, the FSU, Italy, France, Canada, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Finland, or anywhere else, I am truly thankful for your support, your suggestions and your continued friendship. So as you need light seal material, please keep me in mind…As most of you know. I’m “Interslice” on E-Bay.
