I have been shooting Trix for some time now and souping it in Xtol 1:1. I ususally shoot in @ iso800 and develop for 9min@20C° I like the contrast it gives but now I want more :D

I have been falling in love with Ralph Gibsons look lately and want to try to get that deep black he gets. I dont mind all the grain, I actually have been falling more and more for big grain. I know he uses Rodinal but I live in Iceland and I cant get it here and it seems really hard to get the stores to send it here.

So Im thinking about doing some overdeveloping using Trix@800 and Xtol.
How far should I go? Should I develope like Im developing it @1600, that is 13.5 min? My concern is will I loose my highlights if I go to far.

Any experience overdeveloping Trix. if you have result that would be awesome :)

I scan my negatives and do some "what I would do in the darkroom" PS work on them ;), that includes adding contrast and stuff but I rather get the result straight from the camera.

You could try HC-110 at high dilution (e.g. 'H') although I can't find figures on that.

I recently burned a roll while trying to expose at ISO800 and develop for ISO1600 with solution 'B'.

cant get that here in Iceland :(

all I can buy here is ID-11, Ilfosol3, and sometimes D-76. I order my Xtol @ BHphoto.

Maybe dilute more if you overdevelop in order to save highlights... say 1+3

That would just give me less contrast, right?

As with a lot of overdevelopment, the contrast and grain both goes up

and thats what I´m looking for ;)

I accidentally pushed the heck out of HP5 by developing it in DDX 1:3 for 12 minutes. It produced a interesting look. I'd pushed it slightly in HC110 before but that just blew out highlights. This seemed a bit more compelling:

I've done Tri-X at 1600 in DDX (intentionally this time :) ). I was happy with the results but they were a bit 'cleaner' than you might want:

Well I gave it a test run tonight.

Trix400@800 and overdeveloped in xtol by 3 minutes. Think I might go 4 min over next time :)

Kind of got the look I´m looking for....
