overexposed Reala 100

Hi!
Yesterday I shot away happily with my Contax T and forgot to watch the meter...it was a sunny day and f/2.8 and 1/500 overexposed my Reala 100. Checking my lightmeter (too late)...ISO 64 at the same settings should have been the maximum here. Oups.

What now? Tell to store to pull the film or just have it developed normally?

You can probably overexpose a chromogenic film by up to 4 stops without consequences - just develop normally.

Over exposing color negatives can produce intense high contrast colors. I over expose Ektar 100 to get the color the film deserves.
Develop normally and you might be surprised.

Dear Peter,

With colour negative films, 1/3 stop is trivial. Many overexpose by at least that much as a matter of course.

1/3 of a stop certainly won't be a problem, presuming that the Reala is approaching it's expiry date it might even do some good.

I always over expose film that's past it's date.

Develope it normally will be fine, reala has a nice DR.

Thanks for the replies - I have it developed normally, and see how it turns out. I am used to slide film and b/w film, not much experience with negative film except Portra (which I shoot in interiors) and Ektar, which is iffy with exposure.

How old that Reala is, if it's not fresh then some overexposure is what is screams for. I have matured Reala which has bluish tint and looks bad if shot at box speed.

Not sure actually. I may have bought that in Japan in 2012, so it is not the freshest anymore.

I've just had a roll of Reala bought in 2006/7 developed - fridged most of the time, but at room temperature in a camera for about eight months - and it was fine. I'd link to a scan, but my scanning efforts aren't up to the pro's gorgeous prints! 2012 is nothing to worry about either.

picked the film up today, looks good (nice colors, actually, better then what I remember from Reala). Almost makes me want to shoot more color film again. The Contax T is a gem too....
