A more recent acquisition, which works perfectly except that the shutter *ahem* doesn't open. Or close, presumably:

Shame, it's a lovely looking thing. Anyone have any servicing tips before I take it to pieces and see what (if anything) I can do with it?

I recently gave one of those Olympus to my other half, looking forward to seeing the results.

with the Canon, does it hang up when you try to fire it, but then make a bunch of noise and spin the uptake reel when you open and close the lens cover?

I picked one up recently that does exactly that, so I'd be interested if you overcome the issue.

that solar powered canon looks like an interesting little piece of kit too. Apparently it's a Sure Shot M with the solar stuff added, which is really cool

This is a heavy, awkward camera with bad ergonomics but a decent lens and it was free.:D

This is the tele-photo attachment which I haven't used since there are no frame lines and the viewer lens shows no tele change.

Sorry for the late answer... no, absolutely everything *seems* fine, it fires and even sounds like it's clicking the shutter open and closed again, and the take up reel (yes, it's noisy!) works perfectly well too. It's just that despite the convincing noise, the shutter blades just don't open at all. :(

I haven't made any attempt to fix this.... probably won't to be honest. I may pass it along to someone more capable at some point.

My mum said that she had a camera that was my late grandad's and it turned out to be this!
