Hi,

It's one of the so called Leica Mini, Mini II and Mini 3 (Titan) clones. That's the Minolta Rive Mini, the C-625 and the Olympus Trip AF Mini.

Put them all together and look at the backs and you'll not be able to tell them apart. Same goes for the base and the innards with a minor variation or two.

The are all f/3.5, with a tough transparent lens cover but the fronts vary because minor bits are positioned differently and the lens barrels are a different shape.

The usual rumours on ebay etc suggest they are are all one and the same camera but I can see that the focal lengths of the lenses vary (33, 34 and 35mm from memory) and some are marked as made in Japan and the Olympus is made in Korea.

My guess is that the components were either bought in or else designed for branded cameras, that's just a guess, obviously. Here's the Panasonic, Leica and Minolta (that's from top to bottom) with the backs open to show the family likeness.

Those I've owned and used them all and they all had decent lenses. I can't say more than that as all mine were bought second-hand and cheaply but I have been impressed with them all.

I've never managed to get a manual for the Panasonic and the others give a specification that leaves out a few details I'd like to have; shutter speeds for one...

The Leica example is fetching silly $$$. I paid 99 cents for my Oly on Evil-Bay. I would love to get an example of the Panasonic, but they sold in Europe for the most part and are sort of rare here in the USA. The Minoltas are starting to be close to the Leica's in price. Saw one on the Bay for $99.00. OUCH !!

Hi,

Yes, prices are getting sillier and sillier but I'd say that Leica mini prices are dropping* based on what I've seen looking at ebay. I guess it's part of the decline of interest in P&S's. I used to have dozens of the things and was planning on selling them all off to clear some space but I've been walking round the charity shops giving them away these last few weeks (sigh).

EDIT: As soon as I'd posted I remembered seeing this advert for the Olympus mini:

It looks like a bargain for someone when you allow for the price of the film and battery...

Paired with Konica Flash that I found at the local market while running errands here in BKK

So far I've ran about 15 rolls through it (and counting)
letting them "marinate" before I develop em :D

. . . I have been "passing up" this little one for 2weeks now at my local thrift store. Today, I folded like a lawn chair and put down my 3 dollars for it - I'm glad I did and find hard to believe that no body else went for it. Must be the film thing . . . . . . . .

I hope you have wonderful luck with that camera. It was my nemesis back in the early 1990's. I was working for a paper in Queens, and didn't like traveling around NYC with my big Canon F-1 rig out. Kept it in my camera bag when I was on the subway or moving along the street on the way to assignments. But being NYC, there was always something happening on the street or in the subway, and I wanted a camera that I could have ready at a second's notice when I saw something. So I bought an Olympus Stylus just like the one you have pictured. Figured I'd keep it in my outer coat pocket with the little door closed (to protect the lens) and I could grab it quick, snap open the door, point and shoot, all in about a second and a half. Only problem was, I'd snap open the door, and the stupid camera wouldn't turn on. Can't tell you how many shots I missed, sliding the door back and forth trying to get the camera to turn on. Brought it back to B&H as defective and they gave me another one. It did the same thing. After about two months of frustration, I took a hammer to it. But when I could get it to turn on, it took nice pictures.
