Ohboyohboy! Yesterday I got a notice from my mailman saying I could collect a package from the post office. The only package I expect is from Russia, containing a black J8, a J11 and a J3. Only a few more hours before I can leave work and rush to the post office! Expectation's growing.... 😛

I'm expecting 2 packages next week. One from DDM (on RFF) containing a black Fed2 with Industar 50mm lens, and another from England which is the trade of 7 various fixed lens rangefinders for a Bessa R, CV25 lens and Jupiter 35mm lens.

Who else is waiting for the mail, and what are you expecting?

I'm currently waiting for three, the almost lost Isolette I bought more than a month ago 🙁 (fortunately it was insured), a couple books (on being a photog + letting go of the camera) + the 40mm Summi from Gene 😀

Yeah, I love packages 🙄

I got a parcel yesterday containing a Zorki 4 and J8 lens from Ebay. Ran a roll through it today and will get it processed tomorrow, 1 hour service (can't wait).

Still waiting for my Bessa R to arrive from an RFF member.

Kuvvy,
Let us know how you like the Zorki and J8. I was happily surprised what good results I got, with how inexpensive they are.

I'm expecting two photo books, one from Amazon and an older book about photography/mountianeering from Alibris books.

Let's see -- I've been busy. I have several packages coming -- a Jupiter 9 for my FED, a 5x7 view camera, Schneider-Kreuznach 5.6/150 and 9/120 graphic art lenses, a set of black and white filters for a Flexaret, and a Flexaret Va.

The Schneider lenses are costing me postage from Vancouver, BC. A reader of my blog (a print maker -- non-photographic) saw that I had the 5x7 coming and offered me, for nothing, the 16x20 vertical Agfa Repromaster line camera her print making department was throwing out. (Something about all the printmakers going digital.) I was tempted but just asked for the lenses. She pulled them out yesterday and will be shipping them down to me. She said they were impressive. Now to find that Packard shutter I've been carrying around for 30 years. I knew I would need it!

Woohoo! Unpacked it!

One really nice looking black J8! The glass looks great too. No "cleaning marks" to speak of.

One really nice looking J11! The barrel is pristine, and the glass is looking unmarked as well.

One nice J3! The glass is unmarked. The barrel looks used and is rather stiff.

Are there any DIY lens dismantling people living in Holland who are willing to lube my lens? I have another silver J8 that needs lubing as well, and I'm too chicken to go about it myself. That has much to do with not being much of a tinkerer. 🙂

I'll stick the J3 on the Bessa R tomorrow and shoot the last shots on the roll.
This weekend I might have some time to take out the J11 on the M2, together with rover's torpedo shaped 135mm VF. The J11 is very light, and much slimmer than the J9, which is a big fat heavy bastard.
I reckon I'm going to need some hoods for these lenses, and front and rear caps too. Time for some more shopping! 😛

Nice J-11, it looks just like mine although I'm not sure how the pics look yet. Got some back from the lab but no time to scan them yet. 🙁 Good luck with your new lenses!

I'm waiting for a 40mm Rokkor-M, an old Elmar 90/4, a Canon S50 hood and some Bay II Rollei filters. Unfortunately the Rokkor was sent with UPS, who have completely screwed up the delivery. They're also charging $45+ CDN to clear a lens through customs!

UPS, DHL, they're all screw-ups! I have never had any decent delivery by them, they charge you an arm and a leg, AND their speed delivery is completely nullified by their bungling of customs clearing or delivery at the door.

Once DHL came to my door and didn't find me at home, so they left a note saying they'd try again the next day, which would be of no use as that was also a working day. So I called them telling them to deliver at my work, which they could do but would take a day EXTRA. So I waited for two days and expected them to deliver at work, which they didn't: someone had forgotten to change my file properly, so the package was again delivered at my door. I called them again telling them I wanted them to deliver the package at my home the very next day, a saturday. They told they don't do deliveries on saturday but they'd change the address again. Lo' and behold, the next monday they delivered at my work... but monday is my DAY OFF! I got really angry by then as they had shipped my package this way and that for almost a week now and told them to deliver at my work the very next day or else.... (Yeah, right! What else?! Make them return my package that I waited for for so long?!) Finally they got it right and delivered the package, one week late. I paid an unheard amount of money for 2-day delivery from Australia but I might as well have asked for regular airmail delivery; it would have made no difference in time but an enormous difference in my wallet.
I have similar stories with UPS and other, local courier services. Damn me if I ever again use these courier services. 🙂

Just got the 'mystery camera' (Porst SE18) today, and it does not work (well, the seller said it wouldn't) - won't spend any time on fixing that, as this thing is quite ugly...
Waiting for my Canon LTM 50/1.8, a Bessa handgrip, and for a Domke F802 bag, all coming from Germany, so they might be here next week...

About UPS: had an expensive Mamiya 645 35mm lens delivered by them - checked there tracking system all the time, since it took so long, and suddenly read that it got delivered, but had not got it myself; so I asked around at various neighbors and two offices in my house, and nobody knew anything; had to call the UPS office, they had to call the delivery person, and he called me and described the person who he gave the package to (a neighbor two floors down...) - and after all of that, they charged 15 Euros for doing the customs handling!
As for packages from the US, I always have it send by USPS, if possible - faster, cheaper and less of a hassle compared to UPS and FedEx... (Oh, and BTW: EMS packages are also more expensive when it comes to customs handling).
