panasonic "6MP D-LUX2" AND "8MP-D-LUX2" Differences

This is an interesting one. I don't believe the two are particularly closely related
except in terms of resolution. Clearly that needs some explaining. The resolution
figures claimed for most consumer digicams are based on an aspect ratio of 4:3,
just like classic movies. The LX-1 measures 8mp only at its expanded aspect ratio
of 16:9. When you check the math, if the LX-1 is shot using the traditional 4:3
ratio, you're only getting 6mp.

So comparing apples to apples, both are 6mp cameras at the 4:3 ratio. As for lens
quality, that's the unknown factor at this point.

I wasn't able to find much else different about them when I looked into it myself. I bought an LX1 about a month ago, and I'm pretty happy with it. The lens is excellent as is the quality of the raw images. My only complaint so far is that it's not so good in low light situations. The flash is quite weak, so if you're primarily interested in low light shooting, you may want to pass unless you have really steady hands.

I've attached some pics that I took when I first tried it out. The first was shot in the early afternoon in central park, the second was indoors w/flash, the last indoors without flash. Hope this helps.

Just looking at the specs, the FX01 seems to have a significantly smaller sensor (1/2.5" vs 1/1.65") and a shorter tele that is not as bright (102mm@f5.6 vs 112mm@f4.9)

At this point, the FX01 is just a bunch of numbers on a spec sheet - nobody's got one yet, right?
