To compose in extremely low light, I use the live view to fine-focus. It makes all the difference in the world.

Other than that, the focus confirmation does a good job. It does take some getting used to on older, manual "legacy" film lenses.
 
Ok, so where can find an L1 fan club? I need to see some more "I am a happy L1 user" posts... :)

Price point exceeded, I tumbled for this deal, too !! Mine will be in tomorrow ... hope, hope, hope....

What would be the recommendation from this group to allow
me to use my Macro-Elmarit 60/2.8 on my soon to arrive DMC-L1??

Infinity focus can be sacrificed, if necessary, as this lens us usually for
electronics macro-photography.

There are a variety of Leica R to 4/3 adapters available on eBay and elsewhere. I have stuck with using fotodiox brand adapters as they are good quality and well priced. I have not tried the Camera Quest ones as they are very pricey. An R lens does not need to sacrifice infinity focus on these cameras to my knowledge.

I seriously doubt you would be disappointed.

As far as I know yes. I must admit I was a bit wary when I first tried as I worried about whether they would clear the mirror which seemed to me to be the main risk. But in the event it was not a problem - not with my lenses in any event. which are M42 (mainly Pentax) and Nikkors.

I bought a Nikon 4/3 adapter and it was good quality and worked well. I also bought an M42 adapter for my Pentax screw mount lenses and while it worked it was not built to close enough tolerances for accurate scale focusing so I bought another with the same result and then settled on sticking to fotodiox ones which function well.

I do not know of any limitations of the adapters but it is possible that some lenses may be limited - if they have any protuberances at the back. You should check this before using.

This user uses a very large Leica Vario Elmarit on an Olympus E-330 body which uses the same mirror box / sensor and viewfinder arrangement as the L1.

Came in the door at 10:30 this a.m. and what a beaut'.

No issues whatsoever, out of the box and shooting ....

Now to get the right adapters...
 
Speaking of adapters and such, I wonder what kind of image degradation one could expect if using the EC-20 4x teleconverter with the Leica kit lens.. Anyone tried the EC-20 yet? I am thinking of getting it instead of a ~50-200 zoom, to keep the kit small.
 
For those of you planning to use it with legacy lenses I find the focus confirmation to be hard to use as its very sensitive. A small movement of the lens' focus ring can have the focus light flash on then off again causing you to have to hunt for correct focus. This is probably the cameras biggest sin in my book. (The camera also struggles for focus more than I expected in AF mode when light conditions are dim.) Also focus confirmation did not work on mine with legacy lenses until I upgraded the firmware - which is worth doing anyway so its no "biggy". Still I forgive the camera its sins since as someone says it does pretend to be a rangefinder camera and since I cannot afford an M8 it does a good enough impersonation to keep me happy for now.
