Peter: Those shots are really nice, though in the 2nd one (lamp post w/ cumulus clouds), the highlights in the clouds are really blown on my monitor (LCD) ... did you shoot RAW or jpg? Is there more detail there that's not showing up on the web?

Thanks for the compliment.
I shot in JPG format. There are some blown highlights which might well be my fault in post processing. I would have concentrated more on the main scenery detail. Or maybe the range was just too great for the camera. In any event I am happy enough with the shot as this happens from time to time.

Thanks for the info, Peter. I imagine RAW would give more flexibility. Given the price drop it will be interesting to see the next version in this line.

Well, I've got one coming in the mail to me. It should be here by Monday or Tuesday, I suppose.
It should be a lot of fun.

I'm not sure I would prefer the 510 over the L1. But yes, the lens alone is worth the price of admission.

Hmmm...makes me wonder if I should have bought 2-3 of these. I think this lens and body will be somewhat of a cult hit later on

I tried the L1 with its built-in flash which resulted in many pictures with a reddish cast, visible in the attached snapshot of my daughter. This happened both when bouncing the flash or pointing it straight-on. Not sure why (I am not very adept at flash photography other then my RD1+SB30 which is a no-brainer
)

Amen to that! 2 years down the road, we can sell the L1 and buy the M8.37mangamonster said:Hmmm...makes me wonder if I should have bought 2-3 of these. I think this lens and body will be somewhat of a cult hit later on![]()

Well, I just got mine in the mail Saturday. Today is the first day I have had a chance to sit down and check it out. So far, from what I've seen, I am really happy with the purchase.
The viewfinder, to me, is not that bad at all. Before I shot my Bessas, I shot a Contax G1 for years. The viewfinder in the G1 is really small and dim compared to the Lumix.
Tomorrow, I plan on hitting the road with it.

I agree with the L1 being a cult hit. Congratulations to all of you for getting such a great camera at an amazing price.
And as far as the reddish cast, akptc, you may want to look at changing the white balance to the flash setting or set it to auto. That may help.

emraphoto said:forgive m if this has been covered but what is the prime availability like for the l1? i reckon it would have to be quite wide to equal say a 28mm hey?
any photo's of one sporting a wide prime about?
Hi Emra -
The 4/3rds adds a 2x factor to the lenses, so everything is doubled.
I know there's an 11mm-22mm (really 22-44mm) Olympus for the L1, but as far as a prime, the widest I can recall is a 8mm (really 16mm) 3.5.
There are 24mm, 25mm and 30mm primes - but they're larger than standard film or RF lenses.
You can also use pretty much *most* film camera lenses with an inexpensive adapter.
It's pretty versatile.

The lens to (almost) complete my L1 kit
The lens to (almost) complete my L1 kit
Thinking of getting the 50-200mm f2.8-3.5, stellar review from popphoto:
Has anyone here tried it? I now carry a rather heavy Pentax kit to sports events (I live 1 block away from a Spring Training stadium
) and wonder if having this lens plus maybe the EC-14 tele converter wight be easier on my back.

Selling the L1
Selling the L1
Well, as much as liked it, it's just too much gear for me (a Pentax DSLR and film kit and I am eying the Canon 40D and the 5D), so it's for sale in the Classifieds. It's been fun to try it out and I came *this close* to getting the Oly 50-200mm SWD
As is often the case, I will probably regret selling the lens (at least) once I (probably) decide to get the E-420, aw shucks...,
