Would appreciate guidance on the film speed that might be required.

160/400/800? 1hr lab processing. BW and color.No tripod.

Daytime upto sunset.

For black & white, I doubt that Tri-X would let you down! You can have it pushed, and it pushes well. I have shot Tri-X in Paris, and around France in general, at the box speed during the month of March, with excellent results. There will be less light in December, but enough, I think. Don't forget you can push Tri-X to 800, 1600, and beyond--though I like to keep it under 1000.

Delta 400 Pro and T-Max 400 type II would also be candidates. I like what Delta 400 can do for the Paris architecture. Tri-X is better for street shots.

I gather that you want your color film to be C-41 color negative. I think I will let someone else make a recommendation for that. I used digital for all my color shots in France. It's easier! A little pocket sized P&S, and you are done!

I just got back from Paris today. I had two days of shooting and the weather was quite dull the one day and sunny the next. On the dull day i had no problem with TrI-X and HP5 @ 400 shooting with a 35 Summaron 2.8, not a really fast lens. On the sunny day I found 400 speed a liitle too fast as I had to shoot at f11 in the sun becasue of the M2's top speed of 1/1000, but as soon as you get in between buildings the light level drops fast.

There are many many places and people to photograph in Paris you will not be dissapointed!
One thing to keep in mind, it did not even start to get light out in the morning until after 8:00 AM and was dark before 5:00 PM, so the days will probably be even shorter when you get there.

I will post some of my photo's after the weekend once i have had a chance to develop and scan.
