The old sharp-edged, heavy Speed Graphic worked real good if you wanted to ward off an attack by some nutcase who wanted to slug the photographer. Or to rearrange his face for a more interesting portrait.

It's messed up that we can't go about our business of making images without having to worry about being beaten, stabbed and robbed - or worse - but that is the reality of the situation.

Just my humble opinion, but to not plan and act accordingly is a fool's errand.

If they want my cheapo Samsung, no problem. But if they try to take the GW690, they're going to get seriously dented!

Sticking electrodes in someone's chest or neck is no easier than sticking a knife in someone. It's intimate violence, the hardest kind to do decisively.

...However, I might buy an iPhone if a phaser-attachment was available, and I didn't have to wear nylon Star Trek jammies in order to legally use it ("Set phaser on kill, Mister Chekov, and tuck in your pajama-top!")

This is why they invented Android phones.Once the perp see's it's not an I phone it's not worthy of accosting you at all.:)

"Eh, nine-one-one? There is this guy ... he is writhing on the sidewalk...
... what? I don't know, a moment ago looks like he was trying to take a picture with his iPhone..."

:D

So all those stories about stunning photos from the i-phone are true!

happiness is a warm stun gun, yes it is...
If I were going somewhere that I felt I would face potential robbery or other danger, I would carry pepper spray and my old school Bogen aluminum monopod (as I have on numerous occasions). It would be perfect for bashing in the skulls of thief wannabes and other perpetrators if the need to do so arose.
