Pentax 67 Gas!

The 55mm f/4, 45mm f/4 and 105mm lenses are all good. The king of the bunch if you can find and afford one is the 75mm 2.8 (not the f4)

Pro-Mone,

You forgot the 200/4.0 (late version) in that list. I own the four lenses you listed, but adding the 200/4.0 makes a list of the top 5 lenses IMHO as far as primes go.

Add to the list of great P67 lenses the 100mm f/4 Macro... a bit hard to come by as it was among the last lenses introduced.

Yes, the 75/2.8 AL is the king of them all, especially if you like a moderate wide angle. I've rarely taken mine off the camera since getting it, but I'm going to have to part with it since running into a several rare medical issues with this little guy. So here is a valedictory shot until the time when i am able to get another one:

P67, 75/2.8AL, TriX400+D76 1:1

For anyone who is interested, I'll be listing it in the classifieds shortly.

I've just read every post of this amazing thread. The talent on display here is fantastic and some of the photos shared are nothing short of awesome.

I'm also hoping you lot are fairly knowledgeable on the camera itself - I managed to get myself a 6x7 MLU with wooden grip, TTL prism finder, Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 105mm f/2.4 and SMC Pentax 45mm f/4, with Hoya 81B filters on each lens, what looks to be the standard microprism screen, a manual or two and a lens case with a few caps for just $250AUD. If you'll excuse my language, it is a f@#$*&g steal. Even had some Velvia (the original kind, in 220 no less!) with five odd exposed frames in the back.

There is some definite brassing, the ubiquitous prism dent, the shutter button looks like it copped a whack at some stage, one or two rusty screws and some oxidisation around the lens mount, but everything seems to work. Even the meter. Actually, anyone know what area is used to meter with the TTL prism? Average or centre weighted?

I do have a question for those of you more experienced with the camera. I must remove the eyepiece in order to be able to properly focus the thing through the TTL prism. Otherwise, no matter what I do, whatever I am focusing on is fuzzy - I can tell when it should be "focused" but it is still fuzzy! Hope you can follow that. My guess is that the eyepiece is not standard but corrected for near/far sight?

That aside, I only seem to be missing the keys for firing the shutter with the back open, the little O-ring thing that makes changing shutter speeds with the TTL prism easier and pretty well anything that resembles a light seal. :D Still can't wait to give it a go.

P.S. If you think the 6x7 mirror whack is loud, you probably haven't heard a Bronica EC in action!

Couldn't help but notice your remark about the Bronica, I had a model S for a while, and although it took some great pics, holy crap, did that thing slap when you released the shutter. I found myself warning people when shooting. Later I found examples on youtube demonstrating the noise, truly in a league of it's own ! Peter

Mystyler, congrats on the new 6x7 kit! I think you are right - it is probably a diopter for vision correction that is installed on that prism. Presumably you can just remove it and be good to go (or maybe remove the optic from it - not sure how that goes together). Actually, people are often looking for those, so if you can figure out what the diopter value is I imagine someone might be interested in purchasing it from you.

Bummer about the missing shutter speed ring, apparently a pretty commonly missing item. Still a nice kit though!

Yes, I must admit I was quite underwhelmed with the noise (or lack of!) that is the 6x7. It isn't quiet...but it isn't a Bronica. :D

Mystyler,

Check with Eric at www.pentaxs.com - he knows his stuff.

Thank you Jerevan, it looks like he is the "John Hermanson" of Pentax. Might make the inevitable large postage fees to worth it. No such thing as a "cheap" camera I've come to learn.

I have unscrewed it from the prism and it is much more usable. I can't work out what exactly it is, dioptre wise, but it allows me to focus on objects closer than I can without it.

I also got back the roll of 220 Velvia (RVP, not RVP50) today too. Five frames of The Twelve Apostles. Looking at them and comparing them against what they look like today, I would date them around 2005/2006 just after the collapse. Shame they sat in the camera until now as they have suffered purple colour shift, maybe even some light leaks... hard to tell though.

With any luck I'll have a roll of fresh 400X in it this weekend to see exactly what needs work, if anything.

I recently got a great deal on a set of three Pentax 67 with four lenses, 55mm f/3.5, 105mm f/2.4, 165mm f/2.8 and the 200mm f/4 (and all three auto extension tubes) for $820, and then sold one of the cameras with the 200mm for $645! :)
I had been looking at the P67 for ages, and were just waiting for the right deal before taking the plunge.
I have been shooting a few rolls now and love the camera. Sure the mirror slam is considerable but not too much of a problem, I have got a couple of acceptable shots at 1/30 so far:)

Some very large pics (up to 31mp) have been posted recently; too large for convenient viewing even on a large monitor. Please consider some members are using a netbook, pad, or laptop... keep this in mind when sizing your files for upload.

I know how attractive it is to show off detail and sharpness, so for this it would be better to include a link to the large version of the picture elsewhere. Suggest that 1024 pixels on the long side can be managed by most users without excessive scrolling, so please let your pics display this size or smaller on RFF. (The Ariel pics above meet this size)

Further, keep the filesize below 300k by adjusting your jpeg compression level, as this will moderate the bandwidth load for quicker display response.

Thanks!
Doug
