You consider the wider f/4 45mm easier to focus than the f/4.5 zoom? That's curious, and I wonder if the focusing screen just isn't optimal for the slower lens. Hard to think of another possible reason.
But it does stir a memory... I got my 55-100 f/4.5 in 2007 and only used it a couple of times shortly afterward. And I do recall having a harder time focusing. But the 4/45mm, 4/55mm, 4/100mm Macro are all fairly easy to focus so there's a puzzle. I should get the zoom out again.
There was a period after I bought the zoom, that I used it quite a lot. But lately I have returned to my primes, I feel more comfertable with them. The SMC55-100mm f4.5 is a tremendous lens, but very demanding IMHO. Maybe it is a combination of weight and focussing, but most of all I guess it simply takes a lot of work to master this zoom, for me at least

That's a really nice rig. I've been trying to get a second body myself, because my current one has developed some problems, but haven't had any luck so far.

Thank ya, thank ya. I got a decentish price on everything in EX+ condition. I even splurged and got the TTL prism. Can't wait to get out there with this camera.

Ok "Swift" time to cut this out!!! I've got enough cameras and none of them shoot anything like your pics. Maybe I need new glasses ( yeah, that's it ! ) Peter

Hehe
I actually just sold the lens I used to take the tulip photo. Amazing lens that I'll likely never find again for what I paid, but it was quite difficult for me to use (ALS) and the 200/4 is my favorite, so it had to go.
