Pentaxians... Any out there?

K1000, 50mm f/2 SMC-M, Fuji C200, skylight filter. I am amazed at the sharpness, contrast, and colors this inexpensive lens produces.

First SLR was Asahi Pentax S3 bought in 1961 -- then i got K Mount ME Super and MX but kept the M42 screw gear, then I bought an LX cheaply and WON another but BOTH have trouble including the 'Sticky Mirror Syndrome' and MX flash synch burnt out and meter packed up, then I was GIVEN 2 Spotmatic -F's and a SF-7 body and MZ-5 also have an SV -- very sweet after I lubricated it and bought a 6x7 and 6x Mk II for 'Pro' work. Now there is NO Pro work I just use them for Camera Club and Forum use.

I'd long ago sold off all my Pentax gear, but in late 2018 after I bought the Leica CL, I finally acquired one final Pentax lens to add to my kit for that camera: the Pentax-L 43mm f/1.9 Special.

Leica CL + Pentax-L 43mm f/1.9 Special
ISO 800 @ f/1.9 @ 1/60

This is optically the same lens as the Pentax-FA 43mm f/1.9 Limited but produced in a limited run of 2000 units, about half black finish and half pewter finish with a Leica Thread Mount and RF coupling, and sold with a matching 43mm optical viewfinder. The SLR version was, in the end, my all time favorite Pentax lens out of all the different Pentax lenses I'd owned and the LTM mount Special does not disappoint at all on either the CL or the M. :)

Checking eBay quickly I found several priced at $750 and $1000.
Those prices would be a bargain for many typical Leica customers.

Yes, but for some reason my Pentax Dreams and my Leica Dreams seems to have a different yardstick for 'bargain'... And it all gets muddled when the Pentax is for Leica.

Anyhoo, here's a Pentax photo :)

Dream lens :)

I have one of these. It produces images that are simply amazing. In the 2000s I used it a lot on a CL, usually with Acros, HP5 or Delta 3200, which have tonality that suit it very well in B&W. At the time I also wrote articles for an Adelaide based Leica Users Newsletter. Whenever I put photos from this lens in the newsletter, I would receive numerous negative comments from readers. I always investigated. It was always just because it was a Pentax. Very rarely had the readers looked at the images, which always had links to hi-res versions, and even when they had looked, they couldn’t comment intelligently in what they had seen or its properties.

I still think it is absolutely incredible, and a complete bargain.

Nick, I really like that photo! From deep shadow to highlights with detail, in a geometrically satisfying composition, this is B&W at its best.
