I have used a K-1000 bought new in 1980 since then. First, only with tne SMC 50/2; later I got a 28 mm and 80-200 no-name. Later on, a Pentax 35 2.8 which is a great lens. And a ME body which now has some electronics troible so I need to look into another K-mount Pentax body, maybe a KM.
More recently I branched into Spotmatics, with a good set of Takumars from 24mm to 200mm. Great optics, reliable and ergonomic bodies, what else could I ask?
A preferred set for travel is the K-1000 with a 18-28 no name zoom, or the trusty 35/2.8 if I am looking for quality

I really hate this thread. Every time it updates with a new post, I get an urge to pick up either a Spotmatic or an MX ... and I need a new camera system like I need a hole in my head. But those Pentax lenses really have a seductive quality that I am finding difficult to resist. Damn you all!

I tell ya! I bought a K-1 earlier this year and replaced long-gone primes: 100/2.8, 50/1.7, 50/1.4 35/2. Their performance on the K-1 has been nothing short of stellar.

Wow …. I`ve owned the 100/2.8 a few times over the years but only ever used it with film.

In the late 80's, early 90's I had a Pentax LX and several lenses, including the 100/2.8. It always did really well for me, but I was frustrated that it wasn't faster. The Nikon portrait lenses I lusted after were f:2 or f:1.4. But high ISO performance in contemporary imaging chips is so good that the f:2.8 limitation on the Pentax is no longer an issue. And those Pentax lenses . . there's just something about them. They didn't have many superfast ones, but they hit a sweet spot for a certain "look" that I just never got over. The 50/1.7 is also one of the sleepers there. It is not an expensive lens, but the look is just great. And then there are the new Limited lenses. Jump back. Here's one with the 31 (which I persist in thinking of as a 28):

Vignetting or not, I love how you've used this lens in this picture. Great tones! I have always said it is harder to take a really good picture of a thing, as opposed to of a person. The person is always going to do a little "work" for you. Here's some backyard Pentax color.

Pentax was my first good camera, an H3v which is still one of my all time favorites. My new years resolution is to buy more Super Takumar len's. They cost little and deliver wonderful results. Joe

About the time my first child came along in 1978, I replaced a well-worn Fuji ST 701 with a black MX and 50/1.7. I've learned, the hard way, to never sell a camera with which I've bonded.
Here are a couple of bookend photos with the MX - wife and daughter early on, and again just ahead of our daughter's wedding day.
