Growing quick...

I just picked up this somewhat rare and legendary Pentax "Distagon" 28/2, a Pentax made version of the Zeiss "Hollywood" Distagon 28/2.

Interesting, Colton.... I have a 28mm f/2 SMCP-M but it looks somewhat different. Same "grenade" pattern focus ring but looks shorter. And your front element looks more recessed than mine tho hard to tell. I got mine new in Nov 1981, noting this version was made 1980-84. It's 63mm dia x 42mm long, weighs 215g, has 8 elements in 7 groups, stops to 22, 6 aperture blades. 49mm filter thread. Uses clip-on hood PH-S49. Does your lens seem to be the same as this? Of course mine is an M version, may account for a difference...

From memory the SMC-K version is a different beast to the SMC-M version. The K version is the Zeiss/Distagon Pentax.

BTW love your brassed KM Colton.

Hi Doug,

Zuigologist is correct, the very first Pentax K 28/2 came out of a cooperation between Zeiss and Pentax. Originally designed by Zeiss for cinematography, Zeiss used the design for the C/Y mount Distagon 28/2, and allowed Pentax to use it to build this lens.
The Pentax-M version is a different and original Pentax design.

Just scooped this black MX w/ a 40mm and 28mm f3.5 for an upcoming trip to the Baja
I look forward to using my 50mm 1.4 M42 lens on it too....though too bad it won't focus at infinity;

Good catch! Why won't your M42 lens focus to infinity? Overly thick adapter? If the lens focuses ok on an M42 body, then doesn't on the MX body, it's probably due to a poorly made adapter. The register distance is the same and the adapter should fit flush inside the camera lens flange.

Doug, It must be the adapter as you say. The lens focuses perfectly on the Spotmatic...bu won't focus to infinity on the MX.

The K28/f2 is probably my ultimate goldilocks lens, for any system. I have the M28/f2, and it’s wonderful, but the K is just something else...

taemo, that last photo is my favorite of the series. The little princess is incredibly cute!
