Who cares what color or special edition another person purchases or uses. There seems to me to be a certain negative energy by some aimed at individuals who spend more money on special addition cameras. I am not sure if it is insecurity, masked envy, or just plain sour grapes. The bottom line is that it is none of my business or yours how other people spend their money, it is really about photography and everyone should be able to enjoy it in their own personal way.

Agree with you, Clicker.

IMO, RFF is not only a lot about gear and some about photography, but about money too, in many different ways. From the success of saving a few bucks on the last ebay deal to making fun about gear collectors, to more expensive gear being invariably valued higher than cheaper stuff ("you get what you pay for"), to even loathing the customers of the few pros we have. And we are led by example:

I personally have nothing but loathing and contempt for the ultra rich who compete with each other to outdo the other's "art collection." Yet I would have NO problem taking their money and profiting from their shallowness.

Like it or not, I take it as a given and fee to pay for other stuff that's great here.

Cheers,

Roland.

I agree clicker. Although my Leica M isn't a special edition or a la carte, I can't say I wouldn't have one if I had the money. 🙂

I think much of the contempt comes from people's differing opinions of what a camera should be or how it should be used (as a tool or as a collector's piece or both).

To each his own.

Who knows what causes that effect but you are correct. It is no ones business but the person paying the freight.

I agree. I think you should enjoy your gear and using it should bring a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. Toward that end I think we should support each other and end the silly gear bashing....(unless it's bashing digital in which case there are no restraints....only kidding!!!).

Best regards,

Bob

I posted a thread on the Leica User Forum to see if anyone had bought the DLux 4 Titanium version. I think it looks cool and if you are planning on buying the regular camera and Leica case, then the Ti edition is about the same cost.
Anyway, people started going about how Leica was misleading everyone because "only" 10,000 units doesn't make it a limited edition blah blah blah, and there was an insinuation that anyone interested in a special edition can't "be into photography all that much."
You can see why I hardly post over there... 🙄

There was a time when JT, former bar tender, would post here the news that he had purchased the latest toy (be it a lens or a camera). I considered it a kind of courtesy, as I got to know how these things performed without spending a dime.

That's how I see these things; the fact that other people can buy cameras and lenses on a whim never bothered me. Thank Goodness they're keeping the economy afloat! 🙂

If you don't like the international part of the LUF, then you'd hate the german part. It's hard to find more arrogance and snobbism anywhere else in the internet.

If I won the National Lottery, one of the first things I would order would be an a-la-carte MP.

It wouldn't improve my photography though... In fact, quite the opposite... I'd be afraid of losing it.

I draw the line at a gold Leica though. They're a bit too bling for me

Be careful of what you wish for.
If people had no insecurities or couldn’t experience envy there’d be no Leica. 😉

Hi don't feel that using a MP-3 has handicapped me in any way.

Its a class war thing, eh, what?

PS I have discovered the perfect practical justification for Black Paint. It is FAR more grippy than Chrome or Black Chrome (s******). After acquiring some chrome cameras I noticed immediately how slightly less sure they felt in my hands. Try it 😉 (non-stick pan effect)

I guess some people get upset when people try to justify expensive acquisitions in practical terms. There is no need. Everyone has the right to make themselves happy however they choose. 'I like it' is plenty enough. I like the MP-3 and so bought one.

Hooray for art collectors. They give us hope.

How odd. I typed s-n-i-g-g-e-r (as in laugh to yourself) and I guess RFF has some sort of censoring software and thought I said something else... :O

I guess you don't get teased if you have a special edition .44 magnum with pink grips and fairy engraving do you?

Note to self: Try this.
