Petri color 35

btgc, this is one of my main complaints with this camera as well. The second one is the lens - it's mediocre at best - and the third one the fact that the aperture wheel has no click stops and so you often change aperture accidentally. It's still a nice camera, but I wouldn't really pay much more than the 10€ I paid for it on the flea market last year. There's a lot of hype surrounding this camera, but quality-wise it's definitely no Rollei.
 
I had one once and sold it after a couple of films.
Nice size, looked cute, lens gave lovely colour - but, not very happy with the focussing arrangement and correctly guessed that I could resell it for 3x what I paid.

I hear you! This days two of them went for around eur25 so I wonder if people have realized Bartenders opinion is emotional one or just whole film gear market is collapsing. Reading about mechanical issues (also on RFF) I quickly decided not to bid at all.

To be fair, I'm also seeing rollei 35t's going for about 20€ in seemingly nice condition on German ebay lately. I think used prices for fixed lens film cameras and bodies withou lenses (except Leica and a few others) have been going down quite significantly lately - lenses not so much for obvious reasons...
 
I had the Petri-35 for many years.
The focus wheel not a good idea.
The reason i sold mine..
My Dad gifted me the Rollei-35T.
A gift that keeps on clicking.
Way prefer the Rollei.
Oh! The Petri had a stunning pouch, real leather,velvet.
The lens was very sharp.
 
a quick update, I originally posted this thread in September 2012 and its taken me until now July 2014 to grab a color 35 at a good price (£44), fully working to🙂 Silly prices had put me off coupled with the fact that 99% of my photography is now shot with my Fuji X Pro 1 and my X100
 
Nice. It by the way is a Kuribayashi Petri 35 😉
My dad had one, it now is in my possession, but it is broken. It has a lifetime warranty but, alas, Kuribayashi is no more 🙁
 
I got the call from Advance Camera that the Color 35 I sent in is finally ready, and to expect a call from shipping soon to pay for it. Around $150 for a complete overhaul and shutter fix. I'm excited to use it!
 
Got my camera back yesterday, and ran a roll of Fomapan through it in late afternoon sun. I've only had a chance to review the first few frames before work, I am definitely struggling with exposure, what with the slow 1/250 max shutter, even shots at f16 and f22 seem to be overexposed, though I'll need to see the whole roll to be sure. There are other shots on there where I have a better idea of whether I was using the fastest shutter speed available. My guess is I'll have it glued to 1/250th in the daytime, but getting an orange or red filter might be my next step as well.

ASA 80-100 FP4+ or TMax, yellow filter. It's been decades since i fired a camera on 1/1000. Sounds like a great little camera

I might end up with an ND filter for shooting faster film, it's a pity I have nothing close to 40.5mm already in my kit, or I'd get a step ring. Probably I'll start with a red filter.

The problem with slower film is that, as you get into smoother film with less grain, it makes the slight softness of the lens more apparent. I suspect that this lens would pair especially well with a really contrasty, grainy film like Fomapan 400, where the grain will hide softness.

I shoot a lot of Foma 100. I'm guessing color filters that darken blues will be a good habitual practice for this film, since it's extra sensitive to blue. It is a nice camera!
