HI,

I am in the throws of finalizing details of articles and photographs for a book on Canon RF lenses. There are a few lenses that fellow collectors don't have in there collection so I am hoping someone out there maybe able to help fill some gaps. All photos supplied will be credited to that photographer unless they want to remain anonymous.

Following is a list of the lenses I require along with the serial numbers within that range. If the lens you own is close to the serial number let me know as I may not have recorded it.
  1. 28mm f/3.5 lens TYPE 3 between #13385 & # 13623. On the front ID ring these lenses will have "CANON LENS f : 3.5 28mm Canon Camera Co Japan No xxxxxx"
  2. 28mm f/2.8 lens TYPE 3 between # 19075 & # 21454. On the front ID ring these lenses will have "CANON LENS 28mm 1:2.8 xxxxxx CANON LENS MADE IN JAPAN"
  3. 35mm f/1.5 lens TYPE 3 between # 15541 & ? only 1 lens recorded. On the front ID ring these lenses will have "CANON LENS 35mm 1:1.5 xxxxxx CANON LENS MADE IN JAPAN"
  4. 50mm f/0.95 TV lens TYPE 2 between # 101241 & # 106158. On the front ID ring these lenses will have "CANON TV LENS 50mm 1:0.95 xxxxxx CANON LENS MADE IN JAPAN". MUST be a TV lens with no rangefinder coupling.
  5. 85mm f/1.5 lens TYPE 4 between # 11823 & # 12294. On the front ID ring these lenses will have "CANON LENS f : 85mm f: 1.5 Canon Camera Co Japan No xxxxxx"
  6. 100mmm f/3.5 lens TYPE 7 between # 96574 & # 97175. On the front ID ring these lenses will have "CANON LENS 100m 1:3.5 xxxxxx CANON LENS MADE IN JAPAN"
  7. 200mm f/3.5 lens TYPE 1 between # 10198 & # 10269. On the front ID ring these lenses will have "CANON LENS 200mm f : 3.5 Canon Camera Co Japan No xxxxxx"
  8. ANY Long Telephoto lenses which include 600mm f/5.6, 800mm f/8 and 1000mm f/11. MUST be S set not a R set .
Please contact me off-line or via my website http://www.canonrangefinder.servehttp.com/ and I will send you an email how I would like the pic to look and how you maybe able to do it but that is up to the individual photographer.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Peter, are the seeming errors in these front-ID-ring engravings intentional? E.g.:

-- An 85/1.5 lens marked "f:3.5 28mm" on the front ring?

--A 100/3.5 marked "19mm 1:3.5"??

--A 200/2.5 lens marked "200mm f:3.5"???

Are these actual Canon mismarkings? (in which case I can see how they would be very rare.) Or did you perhaps have some cut-and-paste errors in assembling the list?

I'm not trying to be a wiseacre in pointing this out -- only noting that the oddities in the text will make it harder for owners to know if a particular lens is one of which you need a photo.

For example, I own an 85/1.5 with a serial number within the requested range, but its lens ring is marked with correct info, i.e. Canon Camera Co. Japan No. xxxxx CANON LENS 85mm f:1.5) Should I assume that this is NOT one of the lenses for which you need photos, since it doesn't have the incorrect front-ring engraving?

(Incidentally, although my lens' serial number falls into the "Type 4" range you quote, from the information on your website it appears to be a "Type 3" as the focusing scale is marked in feet only.)

HI Chad,
At this time it will be "CANON Rangefinder Lenses 1939-71" and have just had the OK to use a style of "CANON" on the cover as I CANNOT use the same as what Canon use due to Copywrite. There IS NO WAY I could win a case against Canon Inc.

It will be advertiised... here ...there...and ..everywhere.. Peter

Thanks to Doug Ford I can now cross of the following lens from the list as "supplied"
  1. 50mm f/1.8 lens TYPE 8 between # 345220 & # 348484. On the front ID ring these lenses will have "CANON LENS 50mm 1:1.8 xxxxxx CANON LENS MADE IN JAPAN"
Still eight lenses to complete the pics in the book bar the Long Tele lenses which will be hard to find. Pacrim has an 800mm and have asked for a TIF or RAW images of the lens.

Cheers

Can't help with supplying photos, but I am really looking forward to having this book as a companion to Mr. Dechert's book. Thank you for your efforts.

Hi Peter,
a while ago you were looking for 50mm nikkors marked in millimeters, did you see the ebay auction with the Hansa Canon?

HI Kiu,

Yes I had noticed that some time after I posted that request as Peter Dechert in his book had a
pictures of some early BLACK Face NIKKOR lenses in millimeters. It is odd that this is the only lens or series of early lenses that NKK marked in "mm". The white face lenses and onwards were all marked in centimeters...........BUT I could be proved wrong as I am no Nikon expert. Cheers Peter
