I recently had the chance to go out to Wales with a friend and camp in a field for a weekend while he took part in a downhill longboarding & street luge event. Street luging is crazy:

These guys were going 45mph+ into every corner, running in packs of up to six racers at a time, often so close to each other they were rubbing elbows. It was a challenge to get any shots at all as you only had a split second to grab the shot every time they did a run!
Wonderful photo! Crazy people like that ... I wish I was still one of them.
Always wanted to try that, but honestly at near 70 I'm a little old to deal with the inevitable crashes. Sigh.'

You'd be surprised at the amount of "old lads" who are still willingly throwing themselves down hills. The luge crowd (like this lot) tends to skew older - anywhere from 30 to 65 - in part due to the cost of putting together a luge (they ain't cheap!) and in part because you've got a lot less to worry about with crashes; they're normally just dealing with road rash when something goes wrong, and leathers can deal with most of that.Wonderful photo! It's the "stand-up" guys on longboards that are the real nutters. They don't go quite as fast, but when they go down, they go down hard. A girl I know in Colorado ended up paralysed from the waist down after crashing into a guard rail on a mountain road on a downhill run. Needless to say, you don't get a lot of 50+ stand-up downhill riders!
Here's another one from that same event - this time featuring a longboarder getting sideways through a corner:

Heh... age and damage from other sports/crashes reduced my mobility enough some time ago that the notion of sliding along on pavement even well protected isn't very appealing. Roller boarding/skating was never in the cards for me: I never had the native balance and leg control for that madness.
I rode fast motorcycles for a fair long time very successfully, even raced amateur level for a short while, and the same for sports car comps .. but nowadays I stick to driving my cars and ride my bicycles at sensible rates with no regrets.
"For every thing there is a season..." I'm happy to be mostly whole and capable of enjoying life still.

When I get the chance to be at the race track, I get to photograph my favorite sport: motorcyle road racing!
I made this photo about twenty years ago and it remains a favorite of mine. I believe it was captured on film using a Leica M6TTL and a 90mm lens. Now who was it who said "You cannot shoot sports with a Leica M?" LOL!
Enjoy! G

Same! I need to shoot some bouldering photos soon, I’m thinking a 400 ISO BW film on a 20mm or 28mm lens. I haven’t been climbing for a few months because I shredded my left meniscus and had a long recovery. I shot some lead climbing photos this spring before surgery on digital with an 80-200mm lens (I’m in orange and one of my partners took the photo on my camera - don’t have my photos of the other guys handy on my phone right now)Big Sandy, Henderson, NV.

Sorry to hear about your meniscus, hope you can mend up quick! That route looks like it has a tricky little bulge before the anchors. We haven't done much rope climbing since our kids came along, too much gear and logistics. 😅 Much easier to boulder together as a family (at the gym and outdoors), especially since the kids can't belay us yet. Anyway, glad to have another fellow climber in the house!Same! I need to shoot some bouldering photos soon, I’m thinking a 400 ISO BW film on a 20mm or 28mm lens. Great capture, @Rikard! I'm still learning how to photograph climbing, but you did a great job capturing movement (and lighting) in this photo.
