Planning on getting an R3m

I'm going to sell my Tokina 11-16/2.8, and invest in an R3m and a Voigtlander lens, either 40/1.4 or 50/1.1.

I'm loving analog photography and the darkroom more and more, and I can't wait to get this stuff!

Good for you -- I'm not familiar with the 50, but the 40/1.4 is a very nice lens and balances very well with the Bessa.

Unless you are really worried about batteries, and the Rs use small cheap ones, I recommend thinking about an R3A as well. You don't always have to use it, you can go fully manual, but it is convenient. I think my one camera, one lens combo couldn't get much better than 40mm and a 1:1 finder.

Oh but that black paint finish on the R3M is so nice.

The camera is largely unimportant. it's the fact that you're shooting film that cheers me up!
Having said that, the Voigtlander certainly looks nice...

I don't wear glasses and have both the 40 and 50 mm lenses. I'm not particularly fond of the 40mm frame lines as it does take up a huge portion of the viewfinder.

I also prefer using the 50mm with the R3A. 😀

I have the R3A and 40/1.4 combo. It's an amazing kit. I belive the R3M would be just as good but I'm jsut lazy sometimes.

You get used to the 40 framelines, but you almost have to push your eye into the camera to really use them. That being said, after a few rolls I was so used to it I didn't notice it anymore.

The 1:1 viewfinder image is very nice. I use a screw-in eyesight correction lens that makes the 40mm frames even slightly harder to see, but it's useable. I like the over/under exposure leds in the r3m, because I deliberately overexpose in certain circumstances.

You'll not regret getting the Bessa!

However, if you are not getting the 40/1.4, then consider getting an R2M or A if you think you might get a 35mm in the future. If you'll be using 50mm the whole time, then go with the R3 for the 1:1 viewfinder.
