Planning to sell my canonet.

Its been a great camera, but I don't use it much since I bought my R2A and id hate to see it sit, so do i sell it or keep it on a shelf for a rainy day. Its pretty clean, with the exception of the scratch on the hotshoe . The meter works well and seems accurate, the lense is still sharp and the VF is decently clear. I also replaced the seals on the door recently too. Im not even sure what to sell it for as i paid about $120 from a local shop last year, but they verified it was in great working order.

So what do I charge if I sell it , I'm not looking to get rich , I just want to see it get some use rather than just sit.

I would keep it. If your R2A needs a service or you need a backup you'll miss it hardly. And although it's in good condition, you'll never get the price you paid.

Well depends on a couple things:

--Ability to demonstrate that it is a good working model (works with battery and is in good cosmetic shape)
--Any extras? Unused batteries, lens cap, uv filter, etc?
--How quickly do you want to sell it?

Provided it's in good shape and you are patient, I think you could get $90.

My suggestion is wait until Ken Rockwell reviews it positively - after that it will fly away, leaving you with 300 pounds in hand 🙂

Yeah im still up in the air on selling it hence why i havent listed it yet.

These cameras are selling for silly prices now on eBay. I would sell it now and take advantage of the current spike in prices.

The meter works, battery test lamp illuminates, the worst cosmetic damage is on the hotshoe . And it still has the push on lens cap.

I'm also in no rush to sell it , but if someone wanted to buy it id entertain offers.(this isn't a for sale thread) Its a great camera and has given me great results , it just doesnt get as much use as it once did.

On Australian ebay these tings have been seen going for up around $AU200 ($US150)! Same goes for Olympus RD, RC and even Electro 35's are reaching $AU130. Someone at our local camera club suggested that maybe hteres a lot of money washing around with no place to go cause of the dodgy financial markets and vintage/antique goods represent a store of value. Also $200 is nothing to these people. I reckon its all the websites talking them up. Thats how I got into them - for me it was Matt Dentons and Karen Nakamura sites. Now I'm hopelessly besotted. However I refuse to pay more than $20 for these cameras. I got a black one for $10 (with dented filter ring) and a perfect silver one for $10 also (with case and Canomatic flash). I'm not sure about the picture taking qualities of these cameras though. They dont beat my OM-1 for example.

AFAIK the chrome canonet's wont sell too high. Black ones will cost double.

This in Europe. You'll get a Canonet G III 17 for 50 euros usually. Black ones in good working condition go higher than 100 EUR...
