please read this...

Joe,

Well said. Your quiet moderation is greatly appreciated. I, and I'm sure the vast majority of members, am glad that this site is run by human beings.

Regards

personally, I think our only problem here is letting the canadians post comments.. is there some way we can put them all on 'read only' status? 😀

Hm, is that enough? I'm not canadian!

I agree wholeheartedly, but as I wrote somewhere else here I think the possible death of film is making people paranoid and is making a lot of people upset, (if I owned $1000's of leica gear I'd be upset). The 'D' word has a lot to answer for. I think it would be much easier if we all just accepted the reality of the new digital world rather than trying to claim any superiority in the endless and tedious film v. digital debates that seem to surface.

Yes, I will try harder to stay out of certain threads and, if not, be as civil and humourus as possible.

Joe,
For you, everyone should behave. You have made a real difference here. This is a good place, very tolerant. It does not matter if someone asks a question about a Leica MP or a Kodak Motormatic 35 (I love that camera), they typically get the question answered with respect. That is how it should be.

It's always a good idea to think twice before pressing the submit button, I usually apply that in life and I'm certainly going to remind that to myself more often, being transparent is (I think) the best way to avoid misunderstandings, and even if it's charging sometimes, the use of smilies is a great way for non-native English writers to clarify the meanings of a post.
Thanks for the water-in-face thing, it doesn't hurt but help keep us awake 🙂

Brett,

I think you've been either eating too many 'brats or all that cheese is indeed going to your head 😉

Joe, well said and thank you for that.

Dave

I don't know when it began; each of us could pick an event that , in our minds, was the precursor of the loss of civility in daily intercourse. Joe Friday, get your mind out of the gutter. We see it daily. I detest the "celebrations" athletes conduct at the end of a play, not at the end of the game. In the U.S. politics has become a battlefield and everyone of us losses. Maybe one day we as the human race will learn to treat one another in a civil manner and Joe won't have to issue instructions such as these. In the meantime, thanks Joe!

Joe, thanks for bringing this up. I am fairly new to the forum, but keep coming back (hell, I'm logged in all day 😉) because of how nice this place and people are. Help and advice are offered quickly and discussions are lively.

This is a photography forum, somewhat specialized, but still a photography forum, something we all love and spend a lot of time and money doing. There is no need to bring our frustrations and bad mood into the mix.

Although, I am with Dave if it comes to that cheese fight 😉.

Thank you and Jorge for such a nice community to be a part of.

It's even worse, a lot worse 😉 If you own a Leica R system you have to invest in a DMR at 4500 Euro, and if you own Leica M lenses it will be about 5000 Euro 😱 for the digital M body.So if you own both, the digital revolution will cost you about 10.000 Euro :bang: Happily I only own M gear, so it will be " just" the digital M. I can't wait....I'm saving up 🙄

Or about half that much for an RD-1 😉

Thanks for the reminder, Joe. I will do my best to uphold the tenor of this site, and hope I haven't offended anyone in any way. If I have, it was not intended. Have a great and safe holiday, and may you have the shooting you want in the way you most prefer, one and all.

Joe, your "rant" shouldn't be necessary but, with all of us being human, we sometimes tend to forget ourselves. You're absolutely right. And BTW, your work in the background is keeping this sandbox pretty tidy.

Some of you may know the only RF I really talk about here is my Super Press 23. I don't own a lot of other RF cameras, nor honestly, even do much photograpy with the Super Press. That is one of the reasons I don't post a lot here I guess.

Nonetheless, this remains my favorite net site. In general, most all here are well behaved as well as very knowledgeable on photography in general, and RFdom in particular. There has been a slight change in the tenor of the site lately. I don't think it has been too bad, but then I don't read all posts so I may have missed something in particular.

That slight change in the tenor is a warning, so thanks Joe. A timely post for us all. I certainly intend to watch myself more closely.

As a new RFForum member I would like say that Joe's statements were helpful to me to better understand the purpose of the forum. I'm also grateful that Joe's message was stated without any ambiguity.

Joe, thankyou for the reminder. I'll try even harder to be civil and polite in my postings, after all there is no extra cost for simple use of good manners.

Recently there have been a couple of threads that have started to wind me up, I've sometimes even typed a reply but decided not to hit the submit button, preferring to let the offending thread (there are very few) drop off the front page so to speak. It's not always easy but I have to respect other views even if I don't agree with them.

We are all entitled to our own view but that may not align with everyone elses. If we accept that we'll get on just fine.

If I'm out of line in my posts, I'll welcome the PM. As I say I'll try and behave in accordance with the wonderful spirit of the RFF.

OT. Cheddar is a place in good ole Blighty, they make cheese there as well. 🙂

Careful, you're close to starting a Wisconsin vs. Ontario cheddar fight!
Which could really get nasty if the subject veers to poutine! 😀

Thanks, Joe, I'll do my best to keep debate civil, even when it gets spirited.
