Just a Plus-X fan page...

I love Plus-X aka PX125, i use it for for iso between 50 - 800.

I use it with Rodinal, Diafine and even more esoteric developers like Microdol-x and PQ Universal paper developer, but I love it especially with XTOL. Soon I will try Prescysol EF with Plus-X.

Here's a picture taken recently, at iso 400, using a LED handheld light, and developed in PQ Universal. Shot with M4-P with 35 Cron.

Here's one for Plus-X, iso 800 and Developed in XTOL 1+1

There is a bit of a lost shadow details and where the picture gets a bit flat, but it isn't as grainy as Tri-x at 800 and is still quite usable.

At lower iso with XTOL, plus-x is quite detailed and sharp:

Plus-x can be bought cheaply online at freestylephoto.biz, it is repackaged as Arista Premium 100, while stocks last.

Hidden in the recesses of my freezer is twenty rolls of plus x that I bought from an ebay seller for $1.25 per roll ... short dated.

I may have to use it .... those examples are really nice.

I notice freestyle now only have it in 24 exp rolls and nothing else.

Great shots, Ray! The rich tones (particularly in the third shot) are why I've become fond of Plus-X (or its cheaper twin, Arista Premium 100). I like shooting it at 320 and developing in Diafine. In fact, it's one of the few films that I actually prefer in Diafine. Here's a sample:

Wow, I never knew this film was so versatile! I definitely like the results. Will have to try it out.

I've also wondered about using a LED flashlight like you did. Not that I guess it matters much, but what flashlight did you use?

What is the status of Plus-X, anyway? Did I hear that it was discontinued, or am I thinking of something else?

hi,

the scanner used is an Epson V600, scanned at 2400 dpi with AE (autoexposure) turned off. I manually manipulate the contrast digitally.

the LED lamp looks like this:

A bit weird to hold with left hand and shoot with the right hand, a bit like Bruce Gilden with a detractable flash.

Here's another shot with the LED lamp.

I really dunno what's gonna happen to Plus-X or film in general. I know I am loaded with 150 rolls of Arista Premium (Plus-X) and 100 rolls of Tmax-400 (in 120 format).

I am down to 3 cameras: my M4-P, My Rolleiflex 2.8E and a Bronica RF645 (to be delivered this week). All my previous gear has been sold off or given away to students 🙂

Plus-X in 120 was discontinued late last year but the 35mm is still available. That was recently confirmed in a phone call to Kodak since it disappeared from their site and everyone's inventory at the same time.
It's still alive and well, so keep buying it. Hopefully it'll be around for another 50 years.

My favorite emulsion, by the way. I shot most of my 2004-05 deployment to Iraq with Plus-X (and some Pan-F) and it was an amazing film to use there.

All these were shot on the same roll of 120 size Plus-X in a Mamiya 645 way back when I was in my second year of art school. 1995. Can't remember how I processed them; I think it was D76 1+1, but I am not 100% sure.

fantastic photos here guys! and so many different types of look, feel and texture. From detailed portraits to dreamy river scene to moody war pics.
pls show more 🙂

In late March 20111 in an email exchange with a representative of Kodak Professional Services Customer Support
I was told that 35mm Plus-X is discontinued as well. I posted the actual text of the messages in another thread.

A friend of mine just called Kodak and asked about 35mm. They said it was still in production and available.
I'm not saying you're wrong, I just want the real answer since this is my favorite emulsion.

Plus X was the first B&W film I ever shot. I never thought of it having such a wide latitude. I bought several short dated rolls last year. I've been wanting to shoot & develop with some Preceptol that I have. Be interesting to see what comes out since Preceptol is such a fine grain developer. This thread now gives me an incentive Plus next weekend is an antique motorcycle event I wish to attend.

I hadn't heard of PQ universal that I recall. Can you tell a little more about it? That photo really looks nice. Well, all of them do actually. Plus X used to be a real favorite of mine for b/w.
