I went to send a PM just now and its saying that i have 57 pms, of an allowed 20 PMs.. is this a problem in the site right now?

Related to this I'm begging that we can get the real number of PMs stored increased, I would happily pay for this via the subscription services you have already offered, as i do on other similar sites. At the moment i'm barely able to keep 2 weeks worth of PMs, and i'm not using it THAT much (perhaps too much as my wallet will rightfully claim!! :))

Headfi offer a teered subscription level.. i'm on their bottom one at the moment, but that allows me 500 PMs (I can't remember their basic standard number). I did send an email about this after receiving one about the other available perks to the subscription service. I realise everything has a cost.. but typically these PMs should be VERY VERY tiny.. much smaller than even a small image.

Anyways, firstly its a check to see if anyone elses PMs are currently broken, but i do hope its something that can be upgraded for a fee, I know i'd be glad to pay.

Cheers

Jim

Jim,

Indeed the PM box is limited to 20 PM's. Here is the scoop:

Although regular forum membership is free and has a lot to offer, Premium membership has its benefits which are listed below:

The standard upload limit to the gallery is 5 images per day. With the premium membership, this limit increases to 20 uploads per day. In addition to the increased upload count, your file size also increases to 350k.

You get access to a non rangefinder camera gallery which is only available to Premium members.

You get access to a well organized classified section which allows you to sell your items via a standard buy it now price or via an auction.

Your private message inbox limit increases from 20 messages to 100.

Rangefinderforum is also working on a mail forwarding system which will allow premium members to have email sent to them via RFF forwarded to your personal email. So yourname@rangefinderforum.com will get forwarded to your personal email. This will be part of the Premium membership.

And best of all, you help run this forum which we have all come to like so much :)

The membership dues are only $25.00 per year and can be paid via PayPal or Credit Card.

And don't forget you can still download all your saved messages as text, to your own computer. If you do that regularly you'll never lose anything.

Thanks Jorge.. I missed out on the fact that the amount of PMs for free had gone down with the new membership system in place. And even that the PMs were in the membership system at all, hence my email to you and this post :)

I'd still love for a bit more PMs as I said Headfi have gone for 500 and i have 200 stored on there at the moment, its frighteningly easy when having a discussion via them to acrew 20 in one night. A teered payment system if possible.. but i'll be sending the money soon so i can send PMs again without having to delete all my PMs :)

Cheers

You're right Chris, and i've done that a few times, but its NEVER as nice as looking at them in site, or as useful.. find the old message.. view, and reply.. its a convenience thing really for me, and also a kind of address book of who i've dealt with, my brain gets so fried with day to day work that I hate to forget a few months later who it was i brought such and such off.

Obviously being a photography site, and camera-olics anoymous its got to cater for nice images and galleries, its just that the sizes for pictures, as above 350k for membership, is enough for 358400 bytes, or 358400 letters of text.. one of my more larger PMs at the moment with a few sets of repeated quotes from previous PMs is 5k, so for one picture (of which i can upload 20 a day) thats enough to store 70 of those PMs.. so basically every day i can upload 1400 PMs worth and expect them to survive. A smaller more typical quick PM is < 1k so multiply that figure by 5x, be interesting to know what the average would be, but i think the largest example is effective enough an example of the difference.

Anyways, 100 will be better than what it was before the membership was brought in wont it? I was close to the limit at my 56 or so as i was forever nibbling away the older messages to leave me enough of a buffer to receive new msgs. Its just for me personally, I'd really find it a lot easier if the number was a little bit higher.. as i said, even for an additional fee if its possible.

Thanks.
