I have decided to take the plunge and start doing my own processing and printing. Now I know the inside of a chemical darkroom very well but am clueless about scanning and printing digitally.

I was looking for a workshop and it appears I am about 5 years too late. So can anyone suggest a workshop which works with scanning 35 mm film and then digital manipulation and printing. Or can you suggest a good book. I have been reading stuff on the web but would like to find a book which covers scanning, photoshop type manipulation and finally printing. And any link to a comprehensive website would also be appreciated.

Am presently committed to 35 mm, Leica M's and shooting black and white again (have done minimal b&w since 1975). Color (Ektar 100) gets processed at the local lab but have a tank and chemicals on the way for TriX. Thanks, Rich

I haven't read--or looked for--any books on scanning so I can't help you there. What I do know from experience is that thoroughly reading--and understanding!--the manual for the scanner you have will make a big difference. Also, most of the hardware and software makers have user groups available on or through their websites. Reading and asking questions there can solve a lot of problems as well...

i'm still a thyro at this scanning thinfg, but i do like my epson 4490; easy as heating a can of soup - or just about. i recommend this scanner but note that office depot has epson v500s on sale for $127, at least in my part of alabama.
now, post production is a whole 'nother universe ...
