Ok then. Sure, I'd love am MP. In fact, I have dreamt of Leicas for the past three nights for some reason. But, if I bought one, I'd not use my RF645 enough - which would be sinful. That is the trouble with being poor - I had to sell all my cameras to buy the RF645, and when i want something different, I will have to sell the RF645 - but hopefully, the RF645 will stick around for a LONG time.

The RF645 you get over twice the resolution than the 35mm frame giving you a lot more choice with higher speed film without the big increase in grain. You have some good images both on your web site (maybe a tad small, not clickable from my browser) and in your gallery. Keep up the good work.

I don't exactly understand what you mean by this. "I'm getting in touch with my inner child", etc etc, . . . . I mean I understand the meaning of the quote itself, but in the context of this discussion, what does it mean?

Along the lines of Brian's post, you do realize, Shaaktiman, that you have just raised the bar. If you can spend that much on a toy for yourself, you will need to spend at least as much on her, especially with the holidays approaching 😉

You know how sarcasm doesn't translate over email very well? Sorry I didn't give you enough credit, you picked up the reference anyway. That scene has been running through my head every time I pick up the camera lately.

Michael, while the salaries in Israel are low and the taxes are high it seems that at least half of all Israel is living in my neighborhood and spending their american salaries on trendy clothes and trance vinyl. You could forgo the clothes and get a leica! (BTW, where are you from? My girlfriend is originally from Kibbutz Hatzor.)

The MP sure is nice.. but with my own money, I'd take an M6 + Omega Speedmaster for the same price as an MP .. ;-)

I actually bought an MP as a demo for a couple thousand, used it quite a lot for more than a year. Had to shell out another $180 for the rewind thingy because after one wedding I discovered the knob itself was way slower than a crank (maybe not when casually shooting, but when shots are getting away even a few seconds is too much. I know why the pros clammored for the crank and Leica listened to them back in '67 when pros were still their main market). Had to spend some time taking apart the eyepiece and sealing it, too. Finally sold it, got all my money back thanks to the out-of-proportion-to-inflation price hikes in the meantime, and bought two mechanically-perfect but cosmetically slightly imperfect M6 classics and a Voitlander 28/1.9 Ultron and still had enough left for a steak dinner.

Shaktiman, you ever overhaul a motorbike engine? After putting together most of it, you pump in or pour on a load of oil. Here in India we mix kerosene with the oil. Lubricant and slight solvent/abrasive. Then you keep cranking the thing over for a long, long while. Then clean up and start with fresh oil, not mixed with anything (except maybe beer). For the first x thousand miles or kilometres, you don't go faster than whatever is recommended for each gear. Same with jeans. Damn sight more comfortable after a few washes than when new. I say all this to keep from salivating over the MP which I shall never be able to afford. The post may be pointless, but this is not: shrinks call it displacement.
