I think you have more leverage with 20 fifty dollar bills than you do with 1 one thousand dollar bill.

I think that's good psychology, RJ. I think Frank was being humorous

I like the last one. Reminds me of would you like fries with that?

It has been 2 weeks since I got my MP. It is the, hands down, best thing I have ever bought in the entire history of me buying things. Over the course of a week of use the winding mechanism has turned buttery and slick (it was a touch stiff at first) and I swear, somehow it has gotten quieter. If it was perfect to begin with, it has now become an almost sublime piece of equipment.
I highly recommend picking one up.
OK, done now. whew, thanks.
Congratulations on your new purchase, Shaaktiman. I hope your girlfriend gets interested in your new camera, too.

I was serious, but it's always good to have plenty of small change like 20's and 100's for dickering. The 1000's were for when I used to buy cars.

And then sell them for more money.

Hey shaaktiman,
In a few days I will also know the feeling! My chrome MP is currently in the post, I
received notification from Tony Rose , Popflash Photo this afternoon.
I might add, he has also been a pleasure to deal with!
Cheers,

hehehe. She's great, I love her a lot. We had a good laugh over this post, she doesn't take pictures really. That's why she treats my obsession over kit and a kitchen sink that's constantly full of empty reels and graduated glassware with a sense of amused curiosity. Maybe not curiosity exactly, more just amusement. She thinks I'm weird. (I am.)
Since I have the new leica though we've gone out a few times to shoot, she carries my previous camera, a bessa r2. She's getting into it, but I suspect that it's more about having fun walking around with me than it is about actual image making. Whatever, I appreciate her interest nonetheless.
Ken, you must be excited. I know what it feels like. Also my credit card is still recovering and it's been almost 2 months.

I hate to interrupt the sausagefest, but last time I checked, I was a girl.
Since I have decided that I like mechanical cameras, if I ever buy a "new" Leica I think it'll be an MP. Of course, that will have to wait, you know, for the aforementioned lottery winnings.

Great! I hope there are no surprises the next time you check! Welcome!
BTW, what makes you think this is a sausagefest?

This I gleaned from context. Also, the avatars mostly consist of dude portraits. (By the way, I can't for the life of me figure out how to format and upload one -- no matter what I do, RFF thinks my avatar is unacceptably large.)
Anyway, here's a little bit of womanly advice. If you have a hobby that takes up tons of your time, that's cool but we like to be included. I can't speak for every chick, but personally I like to learn about new things and will even watch someone do something like use a drill press for hours, if he explains what he's doing while he's working with it. (I might not do this every day, but I'll do it at least sometimes.) It also helps if you reciprocate: if she has hobbies that you're not inherently interested in. My hobbies tend to involve my dogs, and I can tell you that it's major brownie point time if a dude tags along to some dog-oriented activity.
Hey, there are so many apathetic people out there that I always think it's healthy when a guy is really into something, as long as it isn't unhealthy, or indicative of mental instability.

Love my MP. Nothing like it. Considered an M6 but after a good CLA and finding one in good enough condition in the first place (and wondering what it had been though) the price difference was not all that significant. Got mine for $2300 in MINT condition with 3 years left on the passport (I know, only original owner can use that...well, let's say we worked it out). FANTASTIC camera.

Man I just saw the cofiguration on the Leica Ala Carte today and played with all the perosnalization of the camera. A chrome MP with the Nappa Bordeaux or Cognac is simply stunning. I need to find an excuse to get one along with a matching chrome lens.
