The Voigtländer 50mm f/2.5 is also a fine lens for B+W on the M-Leica.

Erik: This thread is only about Leica 50mm lenses.
I am fully aware as are others that there exist many wonderful 50mm lenses by other brands. :bang:

I think that there's a lot of merit in doing what the Hollywood movie guys do: choose all of your lenses to have a similar look. Shooting part of a shoot with a new multi-coated aspheric 50 looks odd if you were shooting your tight shots with a 1960's vintage single coated 90mm Elmarit.

Sound advice. It's definitely a good idead to stick with one or two lenses of a similar vintage, build, and brand etc.
Some of you may well be suprised by how much versatility such simplicity will allow you..

Actually, the subject line and initial post only specifies M-mount, not Leica-brand

I have a tabbed Summicron, which is the same optically as the current Summicron. I love its BW rendering:

Thank you, Helen, but in the roof of the building one can see the Lux distortion!

I have the Zeiss Planar ZM 50/2. I love the build quality but am still evaluating the optical performance.

That's my setup, too. Others may be different, but I can't imagine 35 mm getting a whole lot better.

I also have the Planar and I am delighted with the performance of it.
