Poor man's Konica Hexar AF

I actually like the Stylus over the Epic, as far as the little Oly's go. That said, neither can stand up to the lens on the L35AF. I've got a slew of 35mm P&S cams I've either tested, or am waiting to test. Here are a few I've done already.

Now, some of the films were developed and scanned at the drugstore, so those aren't as good a quality as the scans I get at the pro lab. And some of these cams may not fall inside the parameters as stated, but are nice enough for consideration if you ever find one.

Ummm, I know you said no 40mm lenses but Leica Minilux? Or maybe Contax T1, 2, or 3? I think the T1 and 2 are an oddball 38mm focal length, and the T3 is 35mm. I remember that I had a choice between a Minilux and the Hexar and I happened to win the Hexar auction first. I have friends with Miniluxes/T2s and I LOVE the images coming from them. And Miniluxes/Contax Ts have built-in flashes and are smaller than the Hexar, even if they are a touch slower in actual use, and have way smaller, crappier viewfinders. Unless prices have gone up, shouldn't all 3 cameras be around the same cost? If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for your Hexar, and from whom did you buy it?

I've used both the Minilux and the Hexar, as well as a few other cameras others have mentioned here...and personally preferred the handling and slightly bigger size of the Hexar (I get really "dropsy" with P&S sized cameras). Plus the Hexar really is a fast-focusing, easy camera to work with.

Is there even such a thing as a "poor man's" version of anything that shoots film these days? Methinks that anyone who can still afford to buy/process film and spend their money on decades-old P&S cameras that need to be serviced by specialists instead of brand new digital cameras with warranties can't also call themselves "poor." (EDIT: ...Or is it actually the cause of said poverty? 😛 )

Digital is much more expensive, imo. I can't believe the amount of money I've spent on it.

I think a Hexar AF substitute should include both autofocus and a 35-40mm lens. Something like Konica C35 AF2. It has a great 38mm/2.8 Hexanon lens. The camera uses currently available batteries and can be found for a price of a beer or two.

The cheaper point and shoots are no where near on the same level as the hexar. I've been using an MJU II for like 4-5 years now and just last month got a hexar AF. The af, general ergos viewfinder, and especially the lens is just on a different planet to any of the other point and shoots. I still love the little MJU but it's not even close in usability and quality to the hexar.
