Positive news for Asian film photographers

great news, bookmarked for future browsing.

in hong kong, rent is astronomical and this is reflected in the prices. along with the sometimes non-existent customer service i don't feel compelled to support any local brick and mortar shops. (except for one nice shop owner in Mongkok for my developing needs)

I bought around $2,000 worth of fresh E100G two years ago just before they announced the end of production. It's my favorite color palette in E-6 film.

Well done. I'm more into E100VS, which I can luckily still get pretty fresh for a decent price. Expiration 2014/02 and 2014/03, but he's kept it refrigerated. Batch tests gave good results. He's out of E100G though. It pops up from time to time but I think I have enough. ;)

Ouch. That's a bit harsh. I'm glad not everyone thinks like you otherwise it would just be chain electronic stores and 15% markups everywhere in this city.

Every city has its foibles, certainly Hong Kong is no different and vulnerable to astronomical rents and the sometimes unscrupulous (or desperate?) measures taken to pay them. Add into that mix how almost every tourist comes to Hong Kong expecting a bargain and you sometimes have to give a little leeway to store owners who have dozens of window shoppers each day and very little buyers. I suspect this happens everywhere in the world.

Take a closer and more patient look though, and you'll find a plethora of camera and developing stores that are easily some of the world's cheapest and best. Customer service doesn't even come close to the USA / EU but that's why prices in this city are regularly 10-25% cheaper than anywhere else, Asia included.

I get it from China, there's very large stocks of both.

My guess is where I get it (it's a small business) probably has a connection there. The price is fair though (cheaper than I can get Provia 100F for from the shops here) so I'm not too bothered. Wondering why all the stuff that shows up on Ebay though is so old.
