Tri-X Pan (TXP) 4x5 on a Linhof Technikardin with a Xenotar 150 F2.8. Shot wide open. Scanned on an Imacon Precision II, 16-bit BW. There is detail in the hot spot in her hair and face, but when I gave it a bit of contrast it vanished. Of course in the 16-bit tiff the detail is there, but the 500-pixel jpeg does tend to fall apart at times.

Here's a strange one - I 'scanned' this before I had a scanner that could do 4x5. Shot with that Xenotar on a Linhof Technikardin, Portra 400. To copy it, I put it on a piece of translucent plexi in a window and shot it with my Hasselblad digital back (39MP) and then took it into Photoshop, inverted it and went at it with about 8 adjustment layers, trying to work out the colour cast from the base in the negative. It made me REALLY appreciate the engineers who write the input profiles for negative film in the scanners. I have tried it with other negatives but this one was, by far, the best result.

Wanting something better, I just bought a rebuilt refurbished Nikon Super Coolscan LS-2000
It will be interesting to see the differences.

and a Nikon 9000ed. Although some have more detail, D-max is everything and the Minolta Multi II is the best for natural look and color. All you need is a computer with SCSI and access to some of the world's of the best overlooked scanners is yours!
