Post your drum scans (aka the first official Drum Scanners thread)

Edit: Wow, Flickr's automatic sharpening is horrendous. I didn't add any sharpening to the scan.

Nice one Kamph! Flickr's sharpening can very much be a hit or miss. I prefer it on most of my images but every now and then, it completely ruins the image. Try posting a lower resolution image to avoid this.

Finally get a break in work schedule to do some photography. Here is an attempt at something unusual which I captured looking straight up standing under a tree.

These scans does not help my Xpan GAS.
Sorry Kamph. If it's not me, then it will be someone else with their awesome XPan images. It's quickly become my most used camera because of the amazing quality of the lenses and having the ability to shoot it like a pro camera with a relatively easy point n shoot setup.

Couldn't recommend it enough.

Two new 8x10 Velvia 50 Scans. Velvia 50 and Drumscanners are a match made in Photographic Heaven.

Thank you Huss. Couldn't agree more about how this process makes the images shine. I have a digital version of this image which is lifeless compared to the Velvia renditions.

Pali

Can you compare Velvia simulation in Fuji digicams to Velvia drum scans? Color on film never goes overbright too much (neon lights only). Same with Sigma's foveon. Fuji algorithm in their digicams overbright colors unfortunately. I'm testing latest oled displays and this is complete change in quality.

Jack,

I wouldn't mind doing the comparison but I don't have access to Fuji or Sigma cameras. All I have is a Canon 5D MKII which even if I try, I cannot get it to look the same as Velvia in post because it just doesn't capture the tones the same way.

I looked at the comparison images here: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/explor...introduction-fujifilm’s-film-simulation-modes

To me, it seems that all it is doing is adjusting contrasts and adding saturation but not really changing the gamut that the film would respond to in different light.

Pali you have mastered E6 process.

Thank you Jack! I am glad to hear this from you and even to this day, I keep trying to perfect my processing and scanning techniques. Its just such a fun and rewarding learning process.

Here are two more scans from the same roll.

Haven't attempted it yet but want to try it to control the green cast I am getting on my expired ektachrome.

I am controlling for it by using very specific lighting that the film and to like.

I hope you don't mind a few more : )
