Post your foveon DP & SD1m Images

Battery life will improve and it's probably a good idea to get a couple of extras on top of the two they give you. Think of it this way Helen ... is it harder to pop a battery in in DP or replace the roll of Tri-x in an M2? :D

You are one of the flickr 'darlings' Helen in case you haven't noticed ... and perfectly understandable IMO. And add the fact that you're a great photographer of course! :)

Thanks Keith for the Kind Words
Flickr darlin ...moi...No i don't think so, your being Silly

as others have noted, don't be afraid of iso 1600 in black and white. one of the best pieces of advice i got was to set one of the pre-sets C1 C2 or C3 to black and white with a max iso of 1600. i also set one pre-set to color with a max iso of 400 and the other pre-set to black and white with max iso of 800. the camera is very easy to use that way.

unfortunately, battery life is indeed short, even when the batteries fill out. but there are lots of very inexpensive third party batteries on *bay so it's fairly easy to address that issue and not have to think about it. although you do need to charge the batteries, for which i suggest 2 *bay chargers, which are also inexpensive. i've had good luck with Samsung IA-BH125C battery and charger clones, they are the same as the sigma but cost much less. if i remember correctly someone mentioned higher capacity batteries that may work, but i don't remember the details.

Out of curiosity have u turned off "quick preview"? I maybe on by default. U will find this under the third page of the camera menu setting. This may lead to part of your low battery life problem.

Hopefully after a couple of recharge cycles, the battery should be closer to 90 shots per battery.

I just think of each battery is good for 2 rolls of 35mm, so I decide how many I need to take w/ me for the day.

Here's a curley one that someone else may encounter and de-mystify for me!

Occasionally when shooting my focus square vanishes and won't return unless I turn the camera off then on again?

I usually focus manually using the AEL button at the top.

I have never run into this problem.. I also tried to recreate it as well..

It's suddenly occured to me it's bleeding obvious what's causing this and I'll bet my OM collection it's the same thing that causes the camera to occasionally fail to attach exif data to files.

When the camera is processing and writing a raw file to card it's a well known fact that there ain't much left in the tank. Sometimes I'll take two or three or more shots in quick succession and as we all know that will keep the processor maxed out for quite a while ... and the camera will make command mistakes during this period. So obviously this is when these little glitches are occuring. All part of it's unique charm. :D

I remember when reading the test of the SD1M they commented on the camera's errant behaviour during file writing.

I've been post processing a whole heap of files from my D700 with the Zeiss 35mm f2 Distagon tonight from a gallery opening I did a few weeks ago. I have to say they're a little disappointing!

I yielded to temptation and bought myself a DP2M. I hope my images are half as good as those you folks have posted here. Better go find some stuff to sell off now.

Congrats and welcome to the Merry Merrill club!

p.s. beware of the "Merrill G.A.S. factor". The little critters tend to breed fast -- you could have to sell more than you'd planned!

Look forward to seeing some results. About half the price of the full sized version and works well on the DP2M.

The Lee seven5 system works very well with the DP Merrills.

I'll probably first try using the stopper to see what it does with urban flows and movements.
