Post your x-pro1 FW2.0 impressions

The update became available an hour earlier than promised, at 0500 GMT. I installed it immediately.

There is MUCH improved crispness in nearly all aspects of operation: Startup time, AF speed, MF actuation, image review, write times. Better low-light AF. AF is still deadly accurate upon lock but lock is MUCH faster with the 18/2 and 35/1.4. AF speed now feels similar to the OM-D, as the folks at DP Review said.

I am delighted.

Thanks for the link, Gavin. I'll download it tomorrow morning and give it a try then. I looked at the Korean site's mini-videos and it certainly looks like low-light auto-focus has sped up considerably. Any possibility that they also dealt with the dim OVF framelines in bright sunlight?

Cut and paste from the other thread of my comments

All three lens seem to focus faster. Is it my imagination, but the frame lines appear to be a tad more accurate..

They finally gave a unique name for each fw file one for the body and one for each lens.

They still default all my setting :(.. Good thing I remember all the setting changes..

Haven't tried much of anything else yet...

Frame lines are not an issue.. U just need to know the trick.. It turns out that there are two settings for display brightness.

When u are not looking thru the ovf, q menu LCD brightness is for the LCD. after u set this to your liking, the ovf one can be set by placing your eye up to the vf and using the q menu again. The evf brightness follows the ovf in the past. Not sure if new fw changed this behavior (ovf/evf pairing)...

Well this is not really about the firmware but the way Fuji releases its fw... It's weird that you can't find the latest release but only the former version if you start from the "Support" page

http://www.fujifilm.com/support/

I got lost in Fujifilm's offical web pages and thought Fuji was late till some friend sent me the link. So how did you guys find the latest release so quickly?

I figured it out by doing a google search...after semilog posted about it in the other thread. But after I downloaded I noticed that this website had the direct links on the fw update article..

Also Gavin original post 1 had the direct link as well. But the navigation to get to actual download start is not the most straight forward to say the least.

Overall, a very nice update. It feels like a different camera. AF is pretty snappy. I especially like that the scene doesn't lock up in EVF while focusing.

Manual focus is the biggest thing I'm happy with though. I actually got used to the stock XP1 MF (it's much better than the X100), but the speed of v.2 MF is really nice. Speaking of the X100... I hope they do release a v.2 FW for that as well.

One issue that I'm noticing though on the new FW though...

For those of you that shoot an XP1 with adapted glass (I usually use a CV 25mm Snapshot Skopar and occasionally a Jupiter 8), do the any of the auto settings (Aperture priority, anything with Auto ISO, etc.) seem a little under exposed to you? It seems like everything is under exposed by about 1 stop.

I usually have to overcome this by either:
1. Turning off Auto-ISO and setting the exposure comp +1 stop.
2. Shoot full manual aperture, time and ISO then and just "know" what the correct settings are (generally +1 over the meter)

... wondering if any of you guys are experiencing the same phenomenon.

-- EDIT --

I guess the camera wanting to underexpose on an auto setting only happens indoors or dimly lit areas. Changing the metering mode from Multi to either Spot or Average seems to calculates a more correct exposure. Outside in the daytime seems fine. I don't remember having to adjust for this before.

Very nice update. I've only had a chance to use it with the 18 f/2.0 so far. This lens already had pretty good AF speed, but it's still noticeably faster with the 2.0 update.

What is REALLY noticeable is the reduced shutter lag in MF mode. It's not quite instant yet, but at least now I can be reasonably sure that if I'm zone focusing at f/8, I can just put the camera to my eye, compose the shot, and click, and I wont miss the shot because the camera is busy futzing with the aperture blades.

Well done, Fuji!

Check to see if DR is set to 100.
