I also noticed than lot of stuff like spots, dust, dirt, etc is more on the very beginning of the film, and in the end.
and frames in the middle are usually clean.
I had this problem - you can see white grains on the emulsion side with a loupe? - and traced it to my fixer. Filtering through a coffee filter helped. Since I switched to freshly-made Ilford liquid fixer I have not seen the the spots at all.
Glad to say it, my last development with improved workflow was just perfect - film dried without spots and cleaning marks. APX 100 is so sweet, excellent sharpness and grain is very fine.
