Alright.
I think i have spent quite a bit of my time looking at used prices for these lenses...
I figured that it will be more economical on my time and efforst to just consolidate information in one place. With the help of fellow RFFs, i think this might be possible... 😀

I am always interested in the 35mm and 50mm crons but just dont know what are the decent prices for them ( not getting ripped off by the prices found elsewhere)

so i was wondering if anyone would like to share their thoughts on prices for these lenses ..

Assuming used
35/2 Summicron
Second version 1969-1973 chrome
Third version 1973-1979 black
Fourth version 1980 to 1998 LEITZ LENS MADE IN CANADA on filter ring
Fourth version 1980 to 1998 Later variation has "LEICA" on filter ring
Aspherical from 1997 to present

50/2 Summicron
Third version 1956-1968 Dual Range Summicron, chrome
Fourth version 1969-1979 Black lens with no "50" on barrel, No focusing lock or lever
Fifth version 1980-95 Black lens with "50" on barrel, reintroduced focusing lever, without built in hood.
Sixth version 1995-date Black or chrome lens with "50" on barrel and built in hood. No focusing lever. (which from my previous thread found that it should range from USD500 TO 800USD)

You could always give a reasonably tight range...(from user condition to minty condition)
Thank you guys !

This thread already sums up the price question for 50/cron

http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30900

Also look on Ebay for completed auction prices, and KEH for selling and purchasing prices. Add 25 to 30% to KEH's purchasing price and you will have the market price.
Yeah that thread i started only gave me an answer to the new generation used 50mm summicron

Doesn't consolidate the prices for everything in one place.
This thread could also help others looking for such lenses 🙂

Ad for adding 15 to 30% to KEH.
I never believe KEH had good prices to begin with.
KEH, being a store, would have higher prices.
I have looked on ebay. This thread is to ask members how much they have paid and what they think would be a reasonable price to pay
thanks 🙂

I feel you may be enquiring about the length of a piece of string here, Mark. There are so many variables, condition being the main one and what the market will bear being number two IMO.
Hey Mark
I totally understand that there are alot of factors.
But I would like to know the average length of the string to make informed, cautious, educated and rational buying decisions in my life.

I see where you're coming from, Mark. No criticism intended. I paid £425 for my current 50 'cron and £499 for my 35 'cron (4th). Those aren't bad prices in the UK especially for the 35 but will seem very high from across the pond.

Those look like reasonable prices in the US as well.

My estimates for the 'cron 35, eBay, Ex++ or M-, with select accessories (e.g. caps, hoods, bubbles, boxes, etc):

$1800 v1, chrome
$700 v2, black anodized
$700 v3, black anodized
$1100 v4, black anodized
$1400 ASPH

Being Leica, almost endless variations were released, with availability and prices covering a broad range. Some examples: v1 can be found in black paint for a small fortune; titanium v4 and ASPH are common; the v4 is unusual in chrome yet quite affordable; early v4 is available with convex tab; a limited-edition ASPH for Japan has chrome finish and chrome tab (non-locking).

There is no v2 in chrome, although some exist without a filter thread (for some reason, these are considered hot stuff by sellers 🙂).

can anyone enlighten me...
i sometimes see the 35ASPH lens sold with a round hood and sometimes with a square hood..

what is the difference in the packages?( both are asph 35mm )
seems like the one with the square hood comes in a silver black box
and the one with a round hood comes in a white box...

There were two versions of the Aspheric 'lux, Mark. See www.cameraquest.com for details. Either that or someone has just fitted a compatible hood like a 12585 if you're talking about 'crons. I usually use the 12585 on my 35 'cron as it save carrying multiple hoods about.
