I am really, really excited about the new Fuji, but if it is priced anywhere remotely near a Mamiya 7 body, it would be very unreasonable indeed for me to buy one. It is, after all, a fixed lens, knob advance bellows camera.

2) Unlike the Cosina made Voigtlander 35mm Bessas, most if not all the tooling for the Fuji/Bessa III is NEW and not shared with any other camera. So far as I know, this includes the optics as well. That translates into higher per unit cost.

... translation (loosely of course ;) ): $2000. Which is out of my budget.

I'm fine with the knob advance and I like the bellows.
Fixed lens is a good point of course.

Yes, this camera must stay away from the Mamiya 7 price wise.

In my case, the "competition" for this camera is an M-mount RF body (ZI or an R4* for example) plus additional lens(es) to fill out to my small existing LTM/M-mount set. I've got a Bessa T, which is lovely for the wides, but I really do miss not having an integrated RF/VF.

The higher the price point of the Voigtländer 667, the more likely I'll just stick with the M-mount solution. At $3000, the 667 would be out of the running for 2009 -- too many other competing photographic concerns.

At $3000US or £1850GBP, I can buy a much better mf SYSTEM camera.
If Fuji/Cosina choose this price point I believe this camera will die a very sudden death. (Of course I could be wrong and it could become a fashion item for those with more money than sense)

There's also the issue of the resurgent yen, which is running strong against the dollar (and other important currencies). In this economic climate, many buyers will be very cautious about discretionary expenditures. Price sensitivity will be very high.

$2-3,000? That's insane. Aren't cameras often priced higher in Japan than for export? I can't believe they would charge that much. I'm with those of you who say for that money, might as well go with a Mamiya 7, which is also out of my budget.

With the Yen's inevitable drop and after the usual discount the 300,000 Yen list price may very well become a $2000 street price. Not terrible attractive as many has said the Mamiya 7 is plenty good at that price range but if the lens, fit & finish of the body are attractive enough then I can probably sell a Leica lens and pick this one up.

Reminds me of the time my kid came home and told me he bought a dog after I had told him we couldn't afford one.

"How much was it?" I asked.

He said, "It's a $50,000 dog."

"$50,000?" I said, shocked. "How did you pay for it?"

"It was easy Dad. I traded two $25,000 cats for it."

ugh, when are they going to announce a price and release date? i really want to use this for the last projects of class.

If more than $700,. no I will not buy one at that price, there is more option at >$1000, nice Hass 500CM set around that price range.
