Hi, i think that i have a problem with a Jupiter 8, i bought one from ebay and it seems to be perfect, but when i put it on muy Fed 2 i see that it gives me strange focusing distances, comparing it with my industar 26m, when the industar says that an object is at infinity (correct distance) the jupiter says that it is at 7 meters.

could it be that the seller sold me a jupiter 8 for kiev instead than a jupiter 8 for Fed and zorki?

is there a way to know wich version is?

the lens is number 6305405 and it says made in USSR

no chance that it is for kiev - because it is different mount. probably j8 needs adjustment. you should unscrew that focus ring - three screws holding it. before that you put it in that position on the end of scale where it shows 7m and it should be infinity. than you screw ring back so it shows infinity. it should be ok then..

There is a small difference between the I26 and the J8, in the way they couple with the rangefinder at infinity. But a difference of 7m! when it should be at infinity, is too big.

It is possible that the lens is, or was re-assambled in the wrong order/thread entry. I had this once when I cleaned up a lens.

i thought that kiev had the same mount but with different distance from the lens to the film so it couldn´t be used on on zorki or fed.

i´ll try to fix it, but i have not the right tools, the screws are veru little

I got an Industar 61 l/d, - immaculate lens, from an Ebay seller in the Ukraine, - you know the ads., 'all items checked/tested by professional repair man' :D, would not perform till I stripped it and started the focus helix in the right position!....now it's a good 'un! :)
Dave.

if you can rotate to infinity - problem is bigger - someone reassembled lens in wrong order probably...

Is the camera RF cam coupling properly with the lens' coupling cam? With FED-2, the RF cam (that pointy tip which moves in and out) may hang too high or too low. When it does, it won't be able to ride on the lens RF cam properly to provide correct distance measuring.

Also, BEFORE you attempt to disassemble your lens (DO THIS ONLY IF YOU KNOW YOUR WAY AROUND LITTLE PRECISION MACHINES) test the lens first with another camera to see if it's really the one at fault. Another FED or Zorki, of if you have an equivalent Canon or Leica, with a proven calibration.

And finally, ALWAYS set the lens at 1 metre infinity focus when removing the lens from, or putting it on, the camera. This will prevent the camera's (FED and Zorki) RF cam adjustment from being upset. Its position is critical for accurate focus.

Several lenses were made in versions for both FED/Zorki and Kiev. But have no fear - the Zorki version has the old Leica LTM (screw) mount, while the Kiev version has the Contax (bayonet) mount. In no way will one fit the other!! So the problem can't be the "wrong" version.

mmm i unscrewed the focus ring and put the infinity on the seven, now it says the same as the industar but i can turn the ring more than infinity

as i said above - someone disassembled and then reassembled lens in a wrong way. you should probably unscrew bottom part and whole focusing mechanism. previous owner probably started to screw it in wrong position. i dont know how to explain it better without photos...
here is some help
http://mattdentonphoto.com/cameras/industar_relubing/index.html
on matts page he is relubing industar 61 but their focusing mechanisms are same as on jupiter 8.
so look how to dismantle lens ant than try to put it back in proper way.

First, I'd have sent it back, before dissembling it. Who sold it to you? I'd like to know so I avoid similar problems.

it was sold as "as if" so i knew the risk and was very cheap. i bought from a german seller, not a traditional fed or zorki seller
