I have owned a nice wee 35s for many years. It did sit in a drawer unused for a long time. Now I have an issue with it, if I use a 36 frame film and go past frame 35 it will not rewind - it just tears the film.... on a 24 frame film it is frame 23...
Its a bit of a pain having to remember all the time - anyone any ideas on what could cause this ?

Assuming you are remembering to flip up the little rewind lever on the top back of the camera before you try to use the rewind crank on the bottom, it sounds like the film advance mechanism is not disengaging.

Sounds like you're winding too much film on the take-up spool before closing the back.

That's what I was thinking? Are you winding and firing two blanks before putting the back onto the camera?

And by the way, you should never force the film advance lever on a Rollei 35 (or any camera, come to think of it).

Not firing two shots...

Not firing two shots...

I normally only fire of one shot when Im loading the film, and I do flick he rewind lever. Any other camera I have will get 37 from a 36 roll, the wee rollie will only get 35 or it will stick maybe 75% of the time.

Its a great wee camera and I love carring it around, but this is a PITA to remember..

Iwill check it out with a waste film, back open and see if I can tell why.

Thanks all for the suggestions.

On the last roll through my B35 I got 27 shots out of a roll of 24. Now, I know the B differs quite a bit from the T and S models, but still...

I Know how grammer and spelling can really annoy some people, guess you are one of those people.

It an automatic reaction to type IE instead of EI....

You should have seen his/her other post. Thankfully it got deleted by a quick-thinking mod.

I pay attention to my spelling but it's just not everybody's forte. Some people even manage to misspell Kodak. So what? What a petty, nerdish obsession, to criticize misspelled Internet postings.

I had a similar problem years ago with my 35 s. I think it may be the take up spool being too tight and not slipping easily to let the film rewind. See if your take up spool has too much friction or if it slips easily. Good Luck, Joe.

Take up spool..

Take up spool..

Joe - the takeup spool is a bit on the tight side. Is there a easy way to free it up? Just checking before I start to dismantle the wee beastie...

Before dismantling I would spend some time moving the take up spool by hand. Perhaps when you watch tv or have some time. This may loosen it up a bit. Second, when you start to rewind, be very gentle at applying force at the beginning of rewind. Once you have it rewinding you are OK, it is at the beginning of rewind when the film can tear. I just looked at my 35 s and there is a design flaw in them. When the little lever is flipped to rewind, the sprocket is disconnected and turns freely but not the take up spool. This makes the friction on the take up spool critical. Too tight and the film tears, too loose and it may not wind right. Good Luck, they are great little cameras with wonderful lenses. Joe

Well not having a TV I sat reading a book and playing with the takeup spool. It did indeed seem to losen up a bit so I have loaded a film and will try it out, will take it to frame 24 and see what happens on the rewind.
Thanks all...
