Provia 400X seems to be back in production!

Neopan 400 & 1600, RAP. Those were really gone after tedious cuttings on different formats. And this time, the RXP is dead for sure.

Guess in near future they'll change the name into FujiPixel just for good.
So what? Kodak have still dumped more film types than Fuji have. Velvia was also dead, once. Point being the company responded to demand and brought it back.

Tell me please, just one instance when Kodak have ever done that.

Bottom line: you want Fujifilm to keep on making a film, it is up to you to buy it.

It dawned on me rather late that production of Provia 400X ended recently, and when I tried to go buy some it was already gone. Everywhere! There must be a horde of this film stacked up in freezers right now.

Fortunately I think I found the last five-pack on the shelf at one of my local shops...
 
Yes, it is very difficult to get some Provia 400X now. In all formats. Unfortunately Fuji killed the best high speed E-6 film ever made.

The truth is:
It was also killed by people like you, who have for years permanently done a ridiculous slide film bashing in the public (in several international forums).
Same for all the stupid Kodak fan boys bashing slide film.

I will never understand why people, who claim to be film shooters, put all their energy in bashing a certain film category and destroying an essential part of the photographic culture.
This behaviour is so stupid and short-sighted.

I'd love to shoot chrome full time but these days it's so uneconomical. $20 for a roll of 36 then another $20 for processing isn't good at all. "You gotta pay to play" just doesn't apply here. It's obscenely priced. Being a 100% film shooter and having access to C41 and BW films at a fraction of the cost I can't help but feel sodomized every time I shoot chrome.

That said, I love the results I get from chrome. The colors are great, the fact that I get a more correct color right away is a huge advantage to scanning the stuff and I wont even start about looking at MF or LF on a light table. Its pure magic.

In Germany you can still get Agfa Precisa (rebadged Fuji Provia 100 nowadays) for about 4€ a roll at the biggest drugstore chain. Development sets you back 2€/roll. I love to shoot slides because I find it much easier to get consistent scanning results compared to colour negatives. And I love the colours!
 
I have CR200/Agfa RSX II 200 exp. 8/15 in the sales out (Eur. 2,95) and still not sold. So you can imagine what the regular interest in E-6 film is. It is how it is: Expensive and only for a very few people.

True. But Precisa is not available everywhere and I don't think that Fuji giving away that film almost for free (well, comparatively to its Provia 100F) is doing us a favour in the long run.

We used to have cheap processing locally. Ran the same as C41/BW at $7 a roll. Same day too. But the lab closed. In Toronto we've had a bit of a tough time getting local E6. There was a guy doing it on weekends at his parents place but when our major pro lab closed he got overwhelmed and jumped ship.

Now there are efforts to bring local processing back but right now we have to send to montreal. With the markups, tax, and shipping it works out to about $20 a roll.
 
Exactly because P400X is already rare in Europe. If you NOW want the film you have to order directly in Japan (e.g. Japan exposures etc.) and take the high transport costs and import duties/VAT.

At DM Drogerie In Germany you can get above cheap E-6 film, also APX-100/400 (new) for Eur. 3,25. 1 1/2 years ago they stopped selling Kodak Ektar 100 and dumping 135-36 for Eur. 2,15.

I was in the two magazines in Kleve and the one in Goch collecting the last 30 Ektar films together. In saturation a nice C-41 film but for portrait work worthless, Magenta, Purple stain so I continued using Pro 160NS and Pro 400H. A pity that Pro 160 NS is not available in 135-36. And of course the loss of Reala 100. Let us hope the last Fuji B&W film, Acros 100 will stay in production.

I lucked out and found a pack of this film on the shelf at my local shop. I've only shot it once before and liked the results, so I didn't want to miss the chance to shoot it again before its gone...

Is this *really* necessary??

I mostly use Kodak black and white film with some Fuji and Ilford mixed in. I also shoot very little color because from a business standpoint, it is just not that viable. I do like using color though and when ever I can, I use it. For example, I just picked up a magazine article that I have until late Spring to shoot, it involves some architecture and has a great budget so I am going to shoot some 4x5 color neg mixed in with digital for the fun of it.

I have 70 rolls of 35mm 400X for a project this Spring, that ought to do the trick for a couple of stories in Cuba I have been lining up.

Other than that...man, at this point I think we all know that color film beyond 2015 is a niche within a niche within a niche. Use it while we have it.

Nonsense. Maybe he and I share the same opinion concerning this topic. But we are different persons.
By the way I know dozens of photographers who also share this opinion. Mr. Vonk's counterproductive behaviour in film marketing, discouraging people to use film and always concentrating on negative aspects, makes lots of people angry in the film community. Also because he is doing that not only here, but in several forums.
With such a behaviour you are destroying your own customer base.
