it just puzzles me that after the market copies and mimics leica's products they can't seem to mimic a simple yet effective rubber lens hood

- "Screw in" is not a mounting method to guarantee exact positioning each time; the extremely fine pitch filter threads can not warrant it when the screwed-in surfaces come to contact with each other.

- Rubber hoods are prone to deterioration (mini-cracks, color-change, etc.) due to ozone and UV. Also they may lose their flexibility to retain the exact shape after some years.

Square hoods: Unless designed specifically for the angle of view of the lens they are to be mounted on, they may NOT function as expected by blocking the lower right corner of the finder on the RF cameras. So be careful. 46mm screw size is larger than the 39mm; consequently the square hood you are going to receive SHALL be substantially larger than the square Leica hoods and most certainly will block a great deal of the view in your finder.

OTOH, if you are going to use it on a camera having liveview then no issue at all.

bob how can I find out if the bayonet mount before the aperture ring is the same size of an pre asph summilux or if its not?

is is possible?

yeah. I just got an email from them , that they have started production.

I just hope it's a precise fit to my bayonet
 
The best hood ever made for a 35mm lens with 43mm threads comes with the Konica UC-Hexanon lens. Perhaps you can find one without the lens. If not, buy the whole package. Sell your current lens.

It might look fancy, but the UC hood is just a standard vented lens hood from what I remember.

Finished in black enamel to match the lens. The threaded ring is fixed and the hood rotates so that none of the 4 connecting ribs is visible in the viewfinder. Most importantly, the lens with hood will not flare. Like the 28mm M-Hexanon with a similar hood in 46mm size. I own both lenses with the original hoods. They are far from standard.

Hi all,
I'm trying to find a hood for my Nikkor 35mm f2.5 lens I purchased
a few off ebay and so far one seems to be working out. I purchased two
of the one mention by Jamie Pillers above it's more like a Leica 50mm lens
hood, but check around ebay first I got mine for $5.99 ea.

When I ownd a UC I never broke the hood out due to the size of the thing (I thought it kind of defeated the purpose of having a lens that small). I bought a 43mm round/non-vented hood meant for the original Voightlander 35mm pancake that was MUCH more compact. I never had any issues with flare using the smaller hood on the UC. I will agree that the original UC hood is nice looking though (that being said I wouldn't recommend buying a UC just to get the hood :rolleyes:)
