hi,
i am new to the rangefinder
actually, i am just planning to buy a CL if you have see my post in the Classifieds

before i get a camera
i think i should get a lens handy
so i planned to buy a Jupiter-8 or an Industar 61
but they are both screw mount

i checked the cameraquest page for the adaptors
he has 2 types,
but what's the different between them?
as far as i can understand, the type I are suitable for all of the lenses, but type II not...
so what's the mean of buying a latest adaptor but which is not function as good as the old one? is there something wrong with the old one instead?

and how should i choose an adaptor if i want to buy it from somewhere else, like ebay?
is there anything i will have to aware of?

thanks

As far as I know, the only difference is that the new type II adapters have a wider flange so that they can be coded to work properly on the Leica M8. I use type I adapters on my Leica CL.

I'd suggest it's worth getting the adapter for the 50/75 focal lengths - it won't make any difference with the CL because that always has the 50mm viewfinder frame visible anyway, but if you should ever use the lens on other bodies, eg a Leica M, you'll need the right one to make sure you get the correct frame in the viewfinder.

Sorry, I missed that bit. As far as I know, any adapter made by Leica or Voigtlander that you find on eBay should work fine with the CL. You can get cheap ones made in China, but personally I'd avoid those because the tolerances are apparently not too good.

I have an Industar-22 on a Bower distributed (Japanese made) adapter and an Industar-61 L/D on a Voigtlander adapter and both seem to be equal. They both work well on my M6 bodies. The Bower branded adapter was a little cheaper than the Voigtlander but not much. For the J8 or I-61, get the adapter for 50/75mm lenses. (Does the CL have 50mm frame lines or does a 50mm lens bring up the 40mm lines?)

thanks very much
i think i will have to thing about the price and the quality of the adaptor... being a student, my butget is quite tight... but if the cheap adaptor doesn't work...

to Dogman
the CL has 40 / 50 / 90 frameline, so a 50 mm lens should bring up the 50mm frameline, right?

I have three cheap Chinese adapters to put my Jupiter/Industar lenses (35, 50, 85mm) on my M2. All work as they should (though the 35mm example is threaded in a way that the distance setting mark turns a little further than top center. Probably an incidental error and not important for me.)
When you mount them very carefully the first times, I think these Chinese clones are cheap enough to give it a try.

As I understand it, the 40 lines are always visible in the finder. If you use a 35 or 50 adapter/lens, the 50 lines will also be visible as well. If you use a 28/90 adaptor/lens, the 90 lines will be visible as well as the 40 ones.

As far as the type II CV adapter is concerned, there is no operating difference on just about anything other than the M8. The new ones were in short supply and most dealers were only selling them either with a new lens or at a price premium.
