Question for XE-1/X-pro1 experts.

Just received the XE-1 and a Metabones Fuji x to Leica M adapter. Getting the hang of things slowly; no Fuji lens in possession yet, so trying the Leica legacy lenses.
Able to use the focus "peaking function" with manual focus, which activates to X3 magnification on pressing the command dial, and then X10 magnification if one turns command dial gently to the right (without pressing it). Very helpful for focusing.
UNABLE to activate other MF functions, such as function distance scale (scale appears, but no readings on it), electronic level, histogram etc.
Had thought that some functions would be unavailable with legacy manual lenses. But, if focus peaking can be done, why not the others ? Most of these would seem to be camera (rather than lens) functions .

Anyone know what the problem might be ? Either the adapter has some issues, or this camera body. The manual does not clarify much...

These are display options that need to be activated via the menu system. The default display mode will not show them if I remember correctly. U need to cycle thru the display modes by using the display back button until u c custom.

The distance scale only works w/ Fuji lenses sine it is using the af mechanism to figure out distance.

There is no problem. The Fuji M-mount adapter only really gives you ONE benefit over using any run-of-the-mill M-to-Fuji adapter. That's the little button on the adapter. Push it and you're taken directly to the menu screen used to tell the camera what focal length lens is mounted - the camera then adjusts the frame lines in the optical viewfinder. That's it.

All the focusing aids you've mentioned are available no matter what lens or adapter you use. The distance scale feature you mention is only available when using the Fuji lenses. There is no way for the Fuji adapter/camera combo to know the rotation position of a non-Fuji lens.

2 more questions-

1. I often shoot a frame looking through the EVF, and them instinctively try to look at it on the LCD. But the recently shot picture is only immediately available in EVF, not the LCD. I don't suppose there's a way around it, but hope there is (without pressing the "Playback" button, that is).

2. Some cameras (x100s/OM-D etc.) are, by default, set in a way that a 1/2 press of the shutter will set the AF/exposure and give you a reasonable guesstimate of what the frame will actually expose as (EVF or LCD). So, one can adjust the aperture/iso/shutter speed, to gat a visually "correctly" exposed shot. Can't seem to do this with the XE-1, where the pre-shot view does not accurately reflect the way the actual image will look like.
Do most people know/care about this, are able to adjust settings to make these "match" ?

I think I can answer the first question. To use the EVF, then look at resulting image on LCD, you need to have the camera set in the "Eye Sensor" mode (use "View" button to set this). That way, when you take your eye away from the camera to look at the LCD, playback switches to the LCD.

Yes...but a word of warning.

U can only depend on the marks if u know your adapter allows correct infinity focus btw. Focus on something about a mile or more away, depending on the lens focal length. c if the inf mark on the lens focus scale has been reached.

Some of these adapters due will focus at infinity slightly ahead of that mark and will need to be shimmed.

doesn't the fuji m adapter correctly focus to infinity?

i know for all the third-party adapters i was using on my nex-7, i'd have to back-focus the same distance that infinity focus would go past.

I found my Fuji to be a hair ahead of infinity.

Before I shimmed my third party adapters, I used to make a mark on where infinity focus was and adjusted accordingly.. Similar to your back focus. Got tired of being forgetful ;(
