Folks, this forum is becomming another addiction for me 😉 I thought that the POTN (photography-on-the.net - Canon forum) was the one, but I catch myself spending quite a bit of time reading this forum as well. Sorry for OT prelude.

I'm about to purchase a case for my new M6 + Summicron 35. Yesterday I spent a couple of hours in B&H looking at the Leica case, comparing it to others and habitually I picked up a Kata small case for the Leica (I love Kata bags and use R-103 every weekday) http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...845&is=REG&addedTroughType=categoryNavigation. When I got back home tried it again, got my honey's opinion on it too and ... - not a right fit. This classic camera requires a more classic casing. More searching and I came across the Luigi's full case: http://www.leicatime.com/000-CasesLeicaM.htm (scroll 3/4 of the way to the bottom) and I reallly like the way it looks and read several threads on this forum about Luigi's quality, design, smell, feel, etc. I'm not overly concerned with the price, but I would like to know what's the difference between Luigi's and Leica brand one: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...&Q=&sku=189141&is=USA&addedTroughType=search?

I apologize in advance for this comparison. I realize that it's not apples and applies compared a hand-made Italian case (with built-in grip) to a factory brand, but still would like to know opinions on this.

Many thanks in advance.

Well,

you really need to hold a camera in a Luigi case. besides it excellent quality and craftmanship, it feels like the camera is the case. I would never own a different case now. Its a pefect combo.

Jorge, thank you for your response. I read your posting that you got the half-case and love it, do you know anyone on this forum who has the full one?

Chancellor,

I have one of Luigi's cases for my M5 and my MP3. There is no comparison to the Leica never ready case. That is like comparing a Kia to a BMW. I had the Leica case which quickly left upon the arrival of Luigi's cases. You can see my M5 in its' case on Luigi's site.

Best,

Ray

Can't help you with the full case, but I have the half case as well for my Canon 7. You can see my case on his web site as well.

There isn't anything that comes close to the quality of his work. On my short list of GAS items is a case from him for my CL as well. To me the Kia/BMW comparison isn't extream enough. Compare a Yugo to a Rolls perhaps... 😉

Ray & William, thanks a lot for your comments and metaphorical comparisions to cars - illustrate the point quite eloquently 😀

It pretty evident that Luigi's cases are by far superior, so I'm going to go with one of his. May I ask your opinion on half-cases: where do you keep the camera when you want to cover it fully, for instance when it's raining?

Thanks.

If it's raining, I either have it inside my coat or else I have the strap on my right shoulder so that the camera is under my arm and it generally provides enough protection.

Chancellor,

I don't like full cases. The half case is great if the camera is out and I'm shooting. If it is raining (maybe 5 days here in Phoenix) or my problem is more blowing dust, it stays under a light coat/open shirt or in a small Fogg shoulder bag. I normally carry a small Fogg that holds the camera, a second lense, polarizer, and film.

IHMO you will like the half case much better than a full-case.

Best,

Ray

Let me add. have a look at the half case with built-in grip. Not the normal one with the small bump grip. This is a nice addition without the addition of a screw on-type grip. Especially useful for the bigger lenses and just overall great holdability.......you'll love any of Luigis' babies though!!!!
