I guess I just want to make sure I'm not missing something here....

Does the Ultron 28mm/1.9 deactivate the light meter on the R3A? I guess that's something I didn't realize unless I'm doing something wrong (which is entirely possible)?

Sorry for seeming like a total newbie idiot.

I can't think of any way this lens could disable the meter... what causes you to think it might? On that body you'll need to use a separate viewfinder to see the framing appropriate to the lens, and the metering diodes of course do not appear in auxilliary viewfinders. To focus and meter, you use the body's viewfinder, then to achieve the correct framing and composition, move your eye to the accessory 28mm finder, presuming you have one, mounted in the camera's accessory shoe.

Thanks, Doug!

I had been doing those steps on the Leica CL and using the handheld meter but when I put the Ultron on Bessa I was really disappointed that the meter wasn't active.....for some reason. Whatever I was doing seems to be fine now--don't have a clue as to why it wasn't working before and I was worried I was gonna have to carry that lightmeter with every kit......

Thanks, I'm happy again.
