Looking into buying a few lenses:

Carl Zeiss DISTAGON 2.8/35

Carl Zeiss PLANAR 1.8/50

Just wondering if anyone has used these two lenses before, what the quality of them are, I'm assuming their either m mount or ltm mount. Does anyone have any shots used with them to post?

I've never heard of either of those lenses in M or LTM mount.

I believe Zeiss uses the name Distagon for retrofocus lenses designed for SLR's, not rangefinders. Biogon is the term they generally give wide angle rangefinder lenses. Do you mean the 35mm f/2.8 C-Biogon?

Additionally, Zeiss only makes a f/2 Planar for rangefinders. They make a f/1.5 M mount lens but it's called a Sonnar.

Any more info on these lenses you could provide us? Could these lenses be in Contax mount (I have limited knowledge on Contax)?

I think those must be the Contax Yashica ones. My wife has the 50 1.8 for her Canon 5D and it is a fine lens but you wont be using it on any M mount camera without a frankly useless adapter.

I am bring up this thread because it seems like the thread starter has the same interest as I am. I was surfing the zeiss online shop and come across this 2 lenses he mentioned. These lenses are for the M42 screw mount thus called ZS lenses.

In the online shop it mentioned that these 2 lens are for the M42 screw mount.

The lens are fairly large in rf terms but it does have a few interesting features.

First is the close focusing. The 35mm Distagon have a focus range of 0.3 m to infinity just like my 21mm distagon for contax g and assuming it has the same 'distagon' design, it is going to be one superb lens. The 50mm Planar f1.5 has a focus range of 0.5m to infinity and it seems like it is a faster version of the 50mm Planar f2.0 ZM lens in a good way.

Now the question is can these 2 lens be used on a Leica M8 via a M42 to M adapter?
2nd question: can these 2 lenses focus on a Leica M8 at 0.3m and 0.5m respectively?

I very much preferred the 35mm distagon if it can be used. it could be the only lens i need for my M8.

Anyone has any contacts with Zeiss dealers to try these out?

These are slr lenses in what I believe to be the Pentax/Practica M42 mount, and it would be totally useless to buy these lenses for a rangefinder, as you would have to find an adapter, and then still scale focus. It is much simpler to buy the 50/2 Planar and 35/2 Biogon ZM, which are both M mount.

don't think they are M mount. And I agree distagon are retrofocus so usually for slr. And I don't think zeiss ever made a 50 1.8. Certainly not for contax.
I think you should find out what mounts they are to be sure they fit your camera. And if they are not m mount you will have no focus indication even with adapters.

The 50/1.8 Planar will be Rollei mount (the Contax version is f1.7).

The 35/2.8 Distagon is either Contax or Rollei mount.
