R-D1 Weak strap lugs

Is anyone having the issue of the strap lugs on their R-D1 wearing through at an alarming rate? I see mine are brass and I've only had the camera under two months. At this rate the lugs will have to be replaced by October. My M4 is a heavier camera and is only on its second set of lugs; not because they wore out but because the body casting holes had started to become a bit wider and the lugs loosened.
Has anyone replaced the strap lugs on their R-D1?

Yes, I've noticed that too. I hang my R-D1 from a single lug, using a sliding ring on a cross-body strap. The ends of the split ring have a tendency to deform the edges of the strap lug's hole as the camera swings around, particularly with the added weight of a grip.

Ari, sounds like you're using the Y-strap. I took my RD1 out on mine yesterday for the first time but usually i use a wrist strap. You guys have got me a little concerned as I've never had a strap lug problem like that with any camera. I'll keep an eye out for problems though.

i also use a wrist strap and rarely have the camera hanging by a lug.

hmm, I've had my rd1 for four years and haven't had, or haven't noticed, any strap lug issues. perhaps I should go take a look.

No, it's time for Cosina to build the camera with steel lugs. I don't like carrying cameras in cases. It makes them bulkier and then they just don't hold right to me. They DO mitigate shutter noise which is nice, but my solution is to build it right the first time, not cutting corners. I don't know about other R-D1 users, but I carry mine every day as a working tool. This is the first camera I've ever seen strap lugs begin to actually wear out within several months of purchasing. These cameras were not meant to be shelf queens or sunday drivers (at least I hope not) and i don't intend to treat them that way. A premium price camera should not have to be handled with kid gloves.

I've checked mine and found they are wearing quite badly as well (images below). The brass lugs are definitely soft. I suspect the acute angles of the original lug 'rings' made them wear down much quicker. I looked around in my parts drawer and found a pair round rings and a pair of triangular nikon 'rings' (as shown in the middle of the 2nd photo)which have flat bottoms. I've change the originals for these hoping that they will put less stress on the lugs. Time will tell.
