I am considering a Voigtlander R3-x body and was wondering if there is any difference between these two cameras.Plaese note that i refer exclusiveley to the finish,I am aware of the auto-exposure available in the R3-a and the R3-M being fully automatic. To be honest I am interested in the AE capability of the A but was wondering about the BLACK finish looking a bit finer on the M(the A looks a bit more "plasticky"to me),at least on the tiny Jpeg pics. I´ve seen on the web...I might be wrong and the finish could simply be the same.Anybody?

Just a silly worry....

The same isue was discussed recently here: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27177

I ended up ordering an R2a from CQ and the finish does not feel/look plasticky at all. However, the R2/3m black finish appeals more to my eye. In the end, I chose the "a" version because I have a todler in the house and AE comes in VERY handy when he's zipping in and out of shadows and lit areas.

Stephen also made a comment inthat thread about the shutter sound of the "m" being softer than the "a".

I can't commend on the finish of the R*M models, but I have an R2A that I received a week ago and I love its finish. The finish on the R2A doesn't appear "plasticky" to me at all and even without having held a R2M/R3M, the finish on the R2A is very good for my tastes.

Cheers,

The R3A has a textured "splatter" black finish. The R3M has a "piano" black smooth finish.
I have them both (oops I sold the R3A) and they are each great. Finish is awesome on the R3A and very awesome on the R3M. Shutter noise just a little softer on the R3M.
